  • Up close and personal with psychosis. A Short Story. Prahran, 1981.
    2024/09/24

An alternative title for ‘Up close and personal with psychosis’ could be ‘the dangers of not having a friend in the world.’ Would things have turned out differently for Dr Resnick if he had a close friend with whom he could share his troubles?

  • A weekend in Palermo? Oxford, 1977. Short Story.
    2024/09/17

Our next story ‘A weekend in Palermo?’ is a short saga about our medical student Alice becoming less naive and more street-wise. There is no such thing as a free lunch, as they say, and it seems all the extra surgical training , Alice was receiving in Oxford, came with a price tag attached. Listen to the very end to see how Alice fairs during this trial.

Have a really lovely day today and go outside for a time.

  • Without Consent. Prahran 1976. Short Story.
    2024/09/13

Our story today with the title “Without Consent” is set in Prahran Melbourne in 1976. It is simply a shocking tale that should never be told. It should be hidden away because our medical student, Alice, is so ashamed of being a part of it. As an author, that is precisely why it should be told and heard by others. This story shines a light on barbaric normalised practices in medicine of old so hopefully they will not be repeated again. Listen to the very end to hear this important tale.

  • Sundays at Greenvale. 1963. A Short Story.
    2024/09/08

Hello, I’m Dr Diane Webster and today’s short story is a short vignette about life for seven year old Alice at Greenvale Victoria in 1963. It’s a work of fiction based on actual events. Names have been changed. Greenvale is 25 km from Melbourne CBD. In 1963 it was a rural landscape with a few large farming properties and some smaller ones like Alice’s house. Country life was simple back then, but often harsh, with many trials and tribulations for its inhabitants as you will see in our story. Listen to the very end and enjoy the tale.
