There, Chaol meets Yrene Towers, who is assigned to help him heal the injuries to his spine. As the story unfolds, Chaol, Yrene, and Nesryn discover important information about why the Valg are so interested in their realm.

Deciding to date each other over the summer with the hope of breaking their respective streaks, they plan for it to be a quick and casual fling: 4 dates, 1 kiss, break up. However, their arrangement grows complicated as they start developing genuine feelings for each other amidst dealing with serious family responsibilities—Justin becomes the guardian of his three siblings and Emma faces issues with her toxic mother.
