    This episode I am reading from Nanci Danison's book '33 Souls Who Met God: Accounts of Atheists, Buddhists, and Christians Who Died and Met the Same God' This new Near-death Experience research explains why NDErs have different experiences after they die. "33 Souls" answers whether your religion or human behavior make any difference in what happens to you after death. This is the book that will allow you to understand what happens when a near-death experiencer does not return to the human body right after the life review. "33 Souls" will remove all worry you might have about death, crossing over, and what awaits you on the other side. 33 Souls Who Met God provides firsthand, in person reports of the true energetic nature of God/Source/the Creator from those who have literally been inside its energetic field. She graduated from Morris Harvey College magna cum laude with a BA in Psychology and a BS in Biology/Chemistry. Her Doctorate in Jurisprudence is from The Ohio State University College of Law. Ms. Danison has for years been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell's "Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers" as one of the top 5% of lawyers in the country. Prior to 1994, Ms. Danison devoted her attention to developing a national reputation in the fields of Medicare fraud defense and general health law; served on the Boards of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio, Inc. and the Gestalt Institute of Ohio; and represented the local Bar Association on TV interview segments on the Noon News for several years. Ms. Danison now writes books and conducts workshops detailing her memories of an extensive afterlife experience following her death in March 1994. After that experience, Ms. Danison left the security of her law firm and set up her own firm, earned her private pilot's license, and became a licensed private detective. She continued her community service on the Boards of Directors of The Columbus Cancer Clinic and of National Church Residences. Her expanded afterlife experience provided Nanci with the unique opportunity to view human life from the perspective of one who has transformed into a Being of Light, like the Beings of Light other near-death experiencers encounter. Ms. Danison learned how to consciously manifest reality, hold multiple simultaneous levels of self-awarenesss, access Universal Knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, recognize and experience unconditional love, apply self-healing techniques, and utilize many other abilities natural to us all in our spiritual state.     This week I’m talking to Richard Estep. He is a paramedic and paranormal investigator. We discuss his experiences as a paranormal investigator and his books detailing the many places he has witnessed extraordinary events. We focus on his book 'The Devil’s Coming To Get Me, The Haunting of Malvern Manor'.

    Malvern Manor has been many things over the course of its long life. In the late 1800s it was a hotel catering to travelers and businessmen; then it was converted into a rest home for the sick and infirm; and finally, it became a privately-owned care facility, providing a home for the physically and mentally challenged of six counties. It was often the last refuge for those suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, and severe behavioral disorders.

    Long after the building closed its doors for the final time, many people claim that some of those residents never left. Now a magnet for paranormal investigators, it is said that the abandoned rooms and hallways of Malvern Manor are haunted by the restless spirits of those who once called it home.

    Richard Estep, author, paranormal investigator, and TV personality. You might have seen me on TV’s Haunted Case Files (Paranormal Investigators in the UK) Haunted Hospitals, Paranormal Revenge, Paranormal Night Shift, Paranormal 911 (that’s a lot of paranormals!) Destination Fear, or A Haunting.

    My love of all things ghostly began at a very young age, fed by staying in my grandparents’ haunted house in England and by a constant stream of binge reading at my local library (Syston Library, you’re the best!) I didn’t begin to actually investigate hauntings until the mid-nineties, but when I started, the bug bit me and hasn’t let go ever since. I took this passion with me when I moved to the United States in 1999, and finally formed the Boulder County Paranormal Research Society in 2006. These days, most of my cases are research projects for books.

    I started to write about my experiences in 2013, and now have north of 30 of books that are either on the market or contracted to be released in the near future. I make my living as a paramedic and clinical educator for a private ambulance company and hospital system. For three years, I gave tours at the infamous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado — inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining.

    In the tiny amount of free time that does not involve paranormal investigation and writing about it, I am an unabashed geek, with a particular bias towards all things Star Wars. I have a Lego problem that may eventually require professional counseling if it gets any further out of hand. Perhaps above all else, I am a collector and reader of books.

    “Precipitated” Spirit Portraits

    In this episode, I look at the Bangs sisters, two of the most famous spirit mediums working in Chicago in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Lizzie and May Bangs became especially well known for their “precipitated” spirit portraits: images said to appear on prepared canvases during sittings, rather than being painted in the ordinary way before the audience’s eyes.

    The episode focuses on who the sisters were, how their portrait sittings were described, and why the paintings became such an important part of American Spiritualist culture. I examine the methods later associated with their work, including the use of framed canvases, window light, and controlled viewing conditions, and I discuss why these portraits were treated as something more than séance curiosities. They were framed, preserved, displayed, and compared with photographs of the dead, which gave them a lasting place in Spiritualist collections.

    I also spend time on the pictures themselves as physical objects. Did they look like ordinary oil paintings? The historical descriptions suggest something more unusual. Later writers and museum accounts often describe the Bangs portraits as smooth in finish, with little or no visible brushwork, rich color, and an appearance closer to softly blended portraiture than to heavily worked oil paint. Some accounts compared the effect to airbrushing.

    The episode also covers specific surviving examples, including portraits linked to Queen Victoria and to Emily and Rose Carson in the Camp Chesterfield collection. Just as important, I look at reports from sitters who said the finished image resembled the deceased closely, sometimes down to details such as beard style, jewelry, or coloring.

    This is an episode about mediumship, mourning, portraiture, and the question of what people believed they were seeing when a face from the dead appeared on canvas.
