In the latest episode of the FILMS I OWN BUT HAVEN'T WATCHED YET podcast, a special spin-off from WN MOVIE TALK PODCAST, I dive into another film from my ever-expanding DVD collection. This week, I kicked off a special Star Trek Week where I review one of the movies from the original series each day. Today, it's "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home." Join me as I watch it for the first time and share my review!
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986): Directed by Leonard Nimoy, this film is the fourth installment in the Star Trek movie series and is known for its lighter tone and environmental message. After the events of "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock," Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his crew are returning to Earth to face the consequences of their actions when they encounter a powerful alien probe threatening to destroy the planet. The probe's signals can only be answered by humpback whales, a species that has been extinct for centuries. To save Earth, the crew must travel back in time to 1986, San Francisco, to find and bring back two humpback whales. The film features a mix of humour and adventure as the crew navigates the challenges of 20th-century Earth while staying true to their mission. "The Voyage Home" is celebrated for its engaging story, strong performances, and its successful blend of sci-fi and social commentary.
