  • Furness Show 11-7: Stewart Mandel, Corbin Smith and Brandon Funston
    2024/11/07
College athletics are a mess and the fault is on the NCAA. Coaches' roles are changing in the world of the NIL and while we've been seeing it play out in college football this season, we're already hearing the major impacts this could and will have on NCAA basketball. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic joins us to react to the first CFP rankings, which he says weren't that surprising and almost a rehash of the AP Poll. He breaks down the top CFP teams from top to bottom - who will fall and who could rise? Also, what surprises might we see throughout the rest of the season? Stewart takes us through the major headlines around CFB right now. The Seahawks' season has had its ups and downs, but most lately downs. Florida is keeping Billy Napier and this matters locally because there were rumors Jedd Fisch would leave for that spot if it opens up. Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks tells Ian the Seahawks are rightfully ranked at the bottom of the NFC West. Why are they regressing in some areas? Corbin gives us a full-blown ranking of Seattle's position groups and who's to blame where things are going wrong. He also says that this team is playing for a top 3 draft pick next year without Geno Smith. If the Seahawks continue to lose, should they commit to a potential *horrid word* rebuild? Jake Dickert spoke with Ian yesterday whether he and the team are hearing noise surrounding the college football playoff. Ian also pressed him on his future at Washington State and Coach hopes Ian isn't the kiss of death like he was last year. The Daily Power Play! Brandon Funston, The Athletic kicks off the unofficial start of the weekend! He anwers all of the loyal listener fantasy football questions for this week. Listeners line up.

  • Furness Show 11-6: Steve Palazzolo, Jake Dickert and Gary Parrish
    2024/11/06
We've got a lot going on today - CFP rankings are out, CBB is starting and there is a lot we continue to see change. We've seen an immersion of technology in sports and Ian is leaning toward excluding it all together. Ian wants to know where the listeners stand on this. He's undecided. Could the Big 12 provide a path for Boise State to get a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff? Some of us root for the chaos - and it looks as though that could happen. Listeners weigh in on the future of replay and technology across sports. Steve Palazzolo, The 33rd Team gives us an evaluation of the winners and losers at the NFL trade deadline this season. There are a few highlights about teams that were supposedly rebuilding, but succeeding at a high rate. Steve gives us a mid-season breakdown of the Seahawks as they sit at 4-5 on the season. Jake Dickert, WSU Head Football Coach joins Ian to talk about the first CFP rankings that has the Cougs ranked #21 in the country. While times are changing, he's rolling with the various waves. While there are complaints about the changes across the NCAA, in his words 'complaining is not a solution, it's not a strategy'. He is very appreciative of the boosters that have stepped up, as well as the fans that do the best they can. Gary Parrish, CBS CBB Insider tells Ian that the same thing we heard from Coach Dickert on the 'recruiting' going on without tampering being illegal. Programs aren't focused on the future anymore in the world of the NIL - they need to build the best program they can right now. It's crazy the demands that are being made these days.

  • Furness Show 11-5: Jon Ryan, NFL Trade Deadline and Cougar Roundtable
    2024/11/05
The NFL trade deadline is today and Ian is trying to comprehend why the Seahawks would even think about trading DK Metcalf. What would that say to the lockerroom? Jon Ryan, former Seahawk takes us inside the lockerroom as we approach the NFL trade deadline. Despite the outside noise, players know the deal and what they signed up for. Nobody was really looking over their shoulder from his experience. He shares his experience from a fan perspective this year and why he's been yelling at his TV. The Rams made a trade that makes Ian scratch his head a bit. What does it mean they're doing moving forward? Gregg Bell joins us to break down the moves we did see - and didn't - at the NFL trade deadline. He thinks the DK Metcalf rumors were far overblown. Rather than what others are speculating, he thinks DK is going to be the next big contract for the Seahawks. We take a look around other moves made in the league today. The first College Football Playoff poll comes out today and despite what's going on around the NCAA, Ian is still interested. He's extremely tuned into what happens with Boise State. The Cougar Roundtable! Zlex Brink and Mkristo Bruce join Ian for a breakdown of where the Cougs stand right now at #20 in the country. There's still a potential path to the CFP, however unlikely it might be. How likely are they to run the table? We discuss.
