    2024/08/29

Thank you for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Leo Reich.

Leo started performing comedy in the Cambridge Footlights, and quickly made a splash at the Edinburgh Fringe with ‘Manhunt’, a sketch show with fellow comedian Emmeline Downie.

His stand-up career took off spectacularly when he won 2Northdown’s New Act Competition in 2020 and later took his smash debut show “Literally Who Cares?!” to the Edinburgh Fringe. Following on from this, he was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Dave Comedy Awards 2022, Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2023, and he was The New York Times Critics Pick. This culminated in a sold-out show at EartH Hackney, which was filmed as an HBO Special by A24 (linked below).

His TV appearances include “The Jonathan Ross Show” (Channel 4), “Friday Night Live” (Channel 4), “Late Night Mash” (Dave), “Comedy Central Live” and “Jonathan Ross Comedy Club” (ITV).

Leo will also soon make his acting debut in Lena Dunham’s new series on Netflix.

Most importantly, however, he provided croissants when George interviewed him, showing despite all of the above, he remains a generous and grounded guy who understands the value of pastries.

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Sarah Roberts.

Sarah started stand-up around the same time as me, so I've been lucky enough to see her perform many times and develop into one of the best new comedians around.

As a stand-up, Sarah has seen huge success in competitions, including as a Finalist in the Komedia New Comedy Award 2023, and as a Runner Up in the Leicester Square New Act Competition 2022. She is also a graduate of Writing and Producing Comedy at the National Film and Television School. As part of her grad project, she wrote, directed and produced a web series pilot called ‘OnlyFran’, which was featured by Director’s Notes as one of 10 essential shorts from NFTS 2022 graduates and was shortlisted for the Funny Women Shorts Award 2022.

She is currently at the Edinburgh Fringe performing her show Silkworm.

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Joe Kent-Walters.

Joe is one of the nicest guys in comedy, with one of the most unique and hilarious acts out there.

Even at such a young age, he is already a master of character comedy. His brilliant and lovable invention ‘Edouardo Soliloquy’ won him the trophy in the 2021 Chortle Student Comedy Competition, where I first met him. His latest character, Frankie Monroe, won him the highly esteemed BBC New Comedy Competition, and the Best Show at the Brighton Fringe this year.

I sat down with Joe to chat about his future plans and his anecdote-packed path towards success thus far. Joe is performing his Fringe debut hour ‘Frankie Monroe Live!!!’ this August, and it’s undoubtedly one of The Young Comedians Podcast’s top picks.

    2023/07/21

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Amy Matthews.

This episode was recorded backstage at the London Comedy Store after Amy had performed her new show 'Amy Matthews: I Feel Like I'm Made of Spiders'. George speaks to Amy about her new show, growing up in Essex and her their chaotic night thus far.

Amy Matthews is a young talent on the rise. She is “drily funny and giddily quirky” (The Scotsman) possessing “the stage presence of a veteran”” (Broadway World). In addition to her highly successful stand-up shows, Amy has appeared in the BAFTA-award-winning show Scot Squad and she has written for Have I Got News For You. It’s no surprise she won Best Newcomer at the Scottish Comedy Awards 2019.
