  • becoming stoic
    2024/07/03

becoming stoic is not about feeling "nothing". it's about feeling everything and taking control. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a quick history lesson on Stoicism: created around 300-320 BC by a merchant named Zeno who was introduced to philosophy when he arrived in Athens. he developed his adaptation to cope with loss. (he was in a shipwreck on his way to Athens where he lost everything) originally, his followers were called Zenonians who later became known as stoics/stoicism the people who made stoicism “famous” so to speak, were: Marcus Aurelius, - emperor of the Roman Empire for nearly 2 decades Seneca - known for letters from a stoic (started when he was exiled from Rome and continued throughout his whole life) Epictetus (a man who obtained his freedom from slavery and went on to found a stoic philosophy school to teach until his death) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 virtues of Stoicism courage - to continue even when life becomes challenging temperance (moderation) - knowing your limits. not too much of a good thing or a bad thing in all aspects of life justice - doing what’s right and treating others with respect because we are all human wisdom - gained through learning, listening, and experiences. we have 2 eyes and 1 mouth for a reason. it’s acquiring the right information and using it for good

  • how to gracefully handle insults
    2024/06/08

how to gracefully handle insults instead of fighting fire with fire. i tell what not to do and what to do so you can walk away feeling confident and secure for the articles mentioned in the video Article 1 Gender Communication: A Comparative Analysis of Communicational Approaches of Men and Women at Workplaces It talks about how each gender communicates with their respective gender and why misunderstanding can lead to the classification of women as emotional, difficult, hysterical, etc… which causes women to stay quiet to avoid ridicule. Article 2 Silencing the Silence: A Study of Women at Workplace It talks about how men use authoritative language which causes women to feel reluctant to share their thoughts openly due to fear of being rejected at the workplace. Article 3 Silencing Women? Gender and Online Harassment It dives deep into the fact that even though men are more likely to experience inline harassment, it is the women who are harassed who become more cautious in expressing their opinions publicly. Book Between Voice and Silence: Women and Girls, Race and Relationship By Jill McLean Taylor, Carol Gilligan, Amy M. Sullivan A 3-year research project on 26 girls in high school who are of low income and a minority. The organizers, observed them as they went through hardships and concluded how the effects of their environments cause psychological effects which leads these young girls to isolate and fear speaking up to avoid trouble or being labeled, if they do speak up they do not feel heard.
