First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially. One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Christmas is many things to many people. It celebrates the birth of the Christ child. It is also Saint Nicholas and Santa Claus, angels, lights, Christmas trees, cards, carols, presents, and prayers. Christmas is...peace, love, and joy.

Fourth graders George Beard and Harold Hutchins are a couple of class clowns. The only thing they enjoy more than playing practical jokes is creating their own comic books. This traditional English Christmas carol was first published in 1780 and still delights children and families today. Each new verse builds upon the last, making this cumulative poem fun for young learners to chant along with, and count each of the twelve days of creative gifts given by “my true love.” As each verse ends with “…and a partridge in a pear tree,” children will become familiar with the words and easily remember this engaging poem.
