  • Hebrews chapter 5 explains the High Priest of the earth and the heavenly High Priest by drawing a comparison between the two. The earthly High Priest was appointed from the descendants of Levi to offer sacrificial offerings to God in order to blot out his people’s sins. Even such High Priests of the earth appointed by God had many weaknesses, for they were all human and consequently imperfect. The High Priest could therefore have compassion on his people for their weaknesses and offer sacrifices on their behalf, for he himself was also weak.
