Ex-Marine, Type 1 Diabetic, Personal Trainer

I grew up in a dark home. My dad was a raging addict who ended up taking his life to suicide when i was 21 years old. I joined the marine corps at 18 years old. I got kicked out at 21 for a pattern of misconduct (drinking, drugging & voilence). Shortly after service my dad killed himself and i was left with the pain. This left me on a journey to grow or i would end up the same way. i went on a relentless journey of personal development and turned myself into a fitness coach. I am also a type 1 diabetic, my life is dependent on insulin injections. My whole goal is to share my stories and show people what they're capable of achieving regardless of their past or their situations in life.

  • Abstract Essay in its Fifth season, features Douglas William Ell as my guest
    2025/12/04

    Doug Ell

Author Douglas Ell, a former atheist, says “I’ve spent more than 30 years reconciling science and God, because I needed scientific evidence to believe in God.”

In our time, the pursuit of scientific and philosophical knowledge has largely been the domain of narrowly focused professionals and academics. Ell’s work represents a return to the more open-minded, broad thinking of the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution, when intelligent people of diverse backgrounds exchanged information not to further professional careers, but as part of a collective effort to advance science and reason.

Douglas Ell grew up in Connecticut, and graduated early from MIT, where he double majored in math and physics. He then obtained a masters in theoretical mathematics from the University of Maryland. After graduating from law school, magna cum laude, he became a prominent attorney. Ell drafted the first 401(k) plan in professional sports and has represented a number of nationally recognized corporations, unions and pension plans. He has litigated nationally with great success and persuaded Congress to make important changes in employee benefits laws.

As a lawyer Ell learned how to sift through competing arguments and the importance of carefully considering different points of view, skills which he has now used to untangle the confused and often emotional relationship between science and religion.

    2025/12/03

    Clint Rusch

Leader, Innovator, Team Builder, Problem Solver

grew up in Minnesota, where I learned the value of hard work, the importance of socially responsible community service, and the meaning of the word 'winter.'

The events of 9/11 changed my life forever, as I left the University of Wisconsin and joined the Army, where I had the distinct honor to serve alongside some of the finest men I've ever known.

Following my time in uniform, I entered the private sector, spending time in operations, finance, consulting, business development, and executive leadership, working in industries as diverse as supply chain, aviation, healthcare, mining, hospitality, government, nonprofit, retail, technology, and utilities, where I consistently delivered growth-oriented, culturally-rooted, and process-driven outcomes for employees, stakeholders, and clients alike.

After spending over a decade in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I now reside outside Kansas City with my wonderful wife and two amazing children, where I lead a custom woodworking business and enjoy golfing, watching sports, barbecuing, reading about history, and supporting my kids as they learn and grow in this incredible world of ours.
