• Discover, Develop, Deploy - Episode 20
    2026/07/01

In this episode of the For the Harvest podcast, Paul Worcester is joined by co-hosts John and David Worcester to unpack one of their most crucial topics: discovering, developing, and deploying harvesters for the kingdom. The team explores how to evaluate potential leaders using the F.A.I.T.H. acronym—Faithful, Available, Initiative, Teachable, and Heart for God and people. They dive deep into the life of Jesus to uncover His strategies for selecting the twelve apostles, noting that He bypassed the religious elite with the greatest resumes in favor of ordinary men who demonstrated faith, teachability, and action.

The conversation challenges modern ministry models that hoard talent and bottleneck leadership. The Worcesters explain why leaders must fight the "castle builder" mentality and embrace a "kingdom focus". They also tackle the fear of burnout in young leaders, introducing the "principle of the plate" to explain how God expands our capacity through faithful obedience.

    Key Discussion Points:

    • The F.A.I.T.H. filter for identifying and assessing future ministry leaders.
    • How Jesus utilized real-life, on-the-job apprenticeship and short trips to train His disciples rather than traditional classroom settings.
    • The "principle of the plate," which helps young leaders differentiate between actual burnout and God expanding their leadership capacity.
    • Overcoming the selfishness of "castle building" that prevents churches from sending out their best leaders.
    • Why discovering, developing, and deploying are not sequential stages, but rather simultaneous emphases happening throughout your ministry.

  • From Dying to Dangerous: Reigniting Kingdom Culture (with Gary Smith) - Episode 19
    2026/06/01

Moving From Dying to Dangerous: Reigniting the Harvest

Many churches in North America today are facing a harsh reality. Depending on who you read, anywhere from 60 to 85% of churches are plateauing and dying. In a recent episode of the For the Harvest podcast, we had the immense privilege of sitting down with Gary Smith, an experienced church planter with around 40 years of ministry experience. Gary recently published a book titled From Dying to Dangerous A Radical New Pathway for Churches to Reignite Kingdom Culture. His insights challenge believers to rethink our deeply ingrained strategies to truly ignite a Kingdom impact.

    Insights on Harvest-Centric Ministry

One of the greatest hindrances to effective church planting today is that strategies are heavily model-centric rather than harvest-centric. Often, church planting strategies and plans are about creating models and drive towards launch Sundays. Gary accurately notes that when we push all our resources toward a grand opening Sunday, we miss the point. "We ought to be launching towards the lostness and thinking how can we multiply disciples," Gary explains. God's heart aches over lost people, and to align with Him, our churches must ache over lost people as well.

    Lessons from the Bridge Principle

How do we actually reach those who are entirely disconnected from the church? Gary introduced us to the "Bridge Principle," a method of connecting the specific values of a local culture to the truth of the gospel. For example, when ministering in an environmentally conscious area where people might assume "hell would freeze over" before they step inside a church, you have to build a bridge. Gary advised a church planter to host an "under the snow" community cleanup event to bridge the gap. You put a plank in the bridge that gets them closer to the church, closer to the gospel, and closer to Christ.

    Takeaways on Dispelling Myths

Gary also spends much of his time dispelling modern ministry myths. The most prominent myth is that you cannot build a new church directly out of the harvest, but rather you must start with a pre-existing launch team. Gary argues that it is a great strategy to build your church plant out of the harvest, raising up new believers to actively lead. We must look for leaders the way the Lord does—looking at the heart, rather than demanding a polished exterior.

We can scale the Kingdom throughout the earth by raising up leaders to go out and start the next new thing. It is time to get serious about evangelism and church planting.

  • 3 Habits for Everyday Evangelism - Episode 18
    2026/05/01

Here is a download link to the free eBook that Paul mentions in the podcast:

    https://www.namb.net/resource/free-ebook-three-habits-for-everyday-evangelism/

Evangelism can often feel like a daunting task, usually left to chance or strictly "organic" moments. In a recent episode of the For the Harvest podcast, hosts Paul, David, and John Worcester discuss why evangelism must be viewed as a foundational spiritual discipline. Based on the principles found in Colossians 4:2-6, they share a highly reproducible tool designed to help believers incorporate three core habits into their daily lives.

    Insights: The Need for Intentionality

As believers grow in their faith, they naturally find themselves with fewer non-Christian contacts. Sharing the gospel cannot be passive; it requires active initiative and prayer. The hosts point out that the Apostle Paul instructed believers to devote themselves to prayer and to make the most of every kairos moment—unique windows of opportunity.

    Lessons: The Three Core Habits

The first habit is praying daily for open doors, specifically praying for "B.O.B."—a Burden for the lost, Opportunities to witness, and Boldness to proclaim Christ. The second habit involves creating an "impact list" of 5 to 10 people. Keeping these names in a journal allows you to consistently apply a prayer, care, and share strategy. The third habit is intentionally scheduling regular time to spend with non-Christians to break out of the isolating Christian bubble.

    Takeaways: Clarity and Culture

When sharing the gospel, the Worcesters note that it is "more important to be clear than it is to be cute". A simple, reproducible presentation empowers new believers to immediately share their faith with their own family and friends. Furthermore, building a culture of accountability in your church's small groups helps celebrate obedience. Because "what gets reported gets repeated," asking simple accountability questions every week ensures that these everyday habits are maintained over the long haul.

    Conclusion

To accelerate evangelistic growth, we must shift from accidental encounters to intentional, daily habits. Subscribe to the For the Harvest podcast for more Bible-driven strategies, and be sure to check the show notes to download the free ebook on everyday evangelism.

  • Four Game Changing Pillars of a Gospel Movement - Episode 17
    2026/04/01

In this episode of the For the Harvest podcast, Paul, David, and John Worcester take a brief "divergence" from their study of the Gospel of John to look at the big-picture practices that drive global evangelistic movements . The team begins with high-energy reports from the field, including fruit on Japan’s difficult soil and a massive youth multiplication movement in India where 60 trained youth planted 40 new groups in just a few months .

The core of the discussion centers on four game-changing pillars: Modeling, Equipping, Empowering, and Encouraging. The Worcesters argue that if a leader abides in Christ and masters these four "buckets," God will use them in encouraging ways. They honor their long-time mentor, Max Barnett, who embodied these principles for 60 years on the college campus and continues to model a passion for evangelism even in the face of a terminal cancer diagnosis. From the "Tiger Brain" analogy of active learning to the balance of "daring like a father and caring like a mother," this episode provides a tactical roadmap for anyone looking to move from being a solitary worker to a movement multiplier.

  • Spiritual Fishing and Food - Episode 16
    2026/03/01

In this episode of the For the Harvest podcast, hosts John, Paul, and David Worcester dive deep into John chapter 4 to uncover the specific "movement-starting" strategies of Jesus. They move beyond the familiar Sunday school stories to examine the tactical brilliance behind Jesus’ decision to leave Judea and travel through Samaria. The conversation highlights how Jesus balanced ministry to the masses with the training of the few, and why He empowered brand-new believers to take immediate action in ministry.

The team explores the "Village Strategy," comparing ancient towns like Sychar to modern-day neighborhoods or college dorms. They discuss the power of "hyper-local" outreach and why reaching one "Person of Peace"—even someone as socially ostracized as the woman at the well—can unlock an entire community. Whether you are a church planter, a student leader, or a believer wanting to impact your workplace, this episode provides a biblical roadmap for breaking social barriers and creating contagious gospel movements.

  • How Jesus Began His Ministry - Episode 13
    2025/12/01

Join Stephen and the Worcesters as they dive into the Book of John, specifically chapters 1 through 4, to uncover Jesus's strategy for ministry and evangelism. The discussion challenges the tendency to focus only on Paul's model for church planting, urging listeners instead to "look closely at Jesus, the apostle". The hosts emphasize that Jesus is the ultimate model for "harvesting like Jesus", providing timeless and cross-cultural principles for ministry methodology.

This episode highlights the importance of studying Jesus's early public ministry, which John meticulously details chronologically before John the Baptist was put in prison. They explore Jesus's strategy of Discovery Evangelism—going to places where people were already spiritually seeking (like John the Baptist's baptism events)—and focusing on the "ripest of the ripe". The conversation shifts into practical application, detailing how modern leaders can adopt this approach, including the power of asking key questions, paying attention to seekers, and the crucial role of Hospitality and Oikos Evangelism (family and friends).

    Key Discussion Points:

    • Why Focus on Jesus’s Evangelism: The importance of modeling ministry after Jesus's actions, not just his theology.
    • The Chronology of John 1-4: Understanding that these chapters detail Jesus’s first few weeks of ministry and discipleship.
    • Discovery Evangelism: The strategy of going where God is already working and focusing on responsive people (the "ripest of the ripe").
    • Practical Steps for Engagement: Using social media, surveys, communication cards, and having spiritual-sparking questions ready.
