The gun for race in the race for the college football playoff went off like a canon in week 1. We saw two significant upsets with both the Commodores and the Eagles swooping into enemy territory and knocking off ranked opponents. We witnessed strong performances from blueblood programs like USC and Notre against ranked opponents. And we saw our share of slow starts by some notable programs like Oregon. However, regardless of how individual teams performed, there is no doubt that conference realignment, NIL, trade portal, and the 12-team play have ushered in a new era which has already proven to be as exhilarating and unpredictable as any point in the history of college football.
