このコンテンツについて
The Supplement to Volume VII expands the story of the Virginia Colony and discusses the important contributions of its founders, from the arrival of the British at Jamestown in 1607, through the economic expansion, and turbulence of the 18th century. Included are discussions of the investors and explorers who were members of the Virginia Company, such as John Smith, George Percy, and many others. The lives and teachings of Virginia's early religious leaders, and the movement from the government-backed Anglican religion to other Protestant faiths are also discussed. Virginia's plantation society and its contribution to the colony's economic success and eventual rise as a political powerhouse is given attention as well. Men of Virginia who were signatories to the founding documents, including the Articles of Confederation, Declaration of Independence, and the US Constitution are also highlighted.
The final chapter discusses important individuals who regardless of gender, race, or social standing never lost hope that they would someday influence society and improve life - for themselves, and us. The supplement DOES NOT include information about four of Virginia's founding fathers: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, and George Washington. They served as four of the first five US presidents, and the role that they and their administrations played in the early decades of the US domestically and internally are too substantial to include in this volume. They will be discussed in an additional installment that will be published in the near future.
