    Welcome back to the Aqua Agenda with your host, Angel Fisher, Director of Conservation Department with BC Métis Federation. Zia yazdani, Conservation manager, and Tanner Oswald, Conservation Coordinator.


    In this special episode, they are joined by guest speaker Jasmine Lee, a sustainability associate at Eco act. Jasmine discusses kelp loss and her project "kelp in hand," a card game designed to raise awareness about seafood station causes. Jasmine shares her journey into conservation, including her experience with the Ocean Bridge Program.


    The episode highlights the importance of youth involvement in conservation efforts and ways listeners can get involved.

    Welcome back to Aqua Agenda! In this episode, your host Tanner Oswald, Coastal Coordinator, is joined by Angel Fisher, Director of Coastal Conservation, and Zia Yazdani, Coastal Manager, from the BC Métis Federation.


    We kick off by sharing our personal journeys into conservation, from childhood memories to professional paths. Angel reflects on her roots in Saskatoon and her journey to working with the Canadian Coast Guard and BC Métis Federation. Tanner shares his transition from healthcare to conservation, Zia discusses his lifelong connection to nature and his role as a manager with the Coastal Conservation team.


    We'll also recap our April activities, including our largest beach cleanup event at English Bay, the Trailblazers hike in North Vancouver, and the Title Talks community session in Fort St. John.

    Welcome to the inaugural episode of Aqua Agenda, the podcast dedicated to the conservation of British Columbia's coastal and aquatic environments. Hosted by Angel Fisher, Director of Coastal Conservation with the BC Métis Federation, alongside Tanner Oswald, Coastal Coordinator, and Zia Yazdani, Coastal Manager, this episode provides an introduction to the podcast and its goals.

    • Who We Are: Learn about the BC Métis Federation, its mission, vision, and values. Discover how BCMF advocates for Métis communities across British Columbia through grassroots efforts and collaborative initiatives.
    • Coastal Conservation Department: Get to know our department, its formation in 2019, and its goals of safeguarding coastal and aquatic ecosystems for future generations. We provide an overview of our educational tools, resources, programs, and services.

    • Community Outreach: Hear about our extensive community outreach efforts, including attending and hosting events across British Columbia. In 2023 alone, we participated in 48 events, connecting with members and communities from Vancouver Island to the Thompson Okanagan and beyond.
    • First Responder Initiative: Learn about our spill kit distribution program, initiated by Coastal Water Protector Brad Giroux. This program provides spill kits to small pleasure craft vessel owners to help them respond safely to spills.
    • Coastal Water Protectors: Discover our ambassador program, which includes Coastal Pups, Coastal Seawolves, and Coastal Ambassadors. We highlight the success of our recent shoreline cleanup event at English Bay, which had over 400 volunteers and garnered media attention.
