The BOXFIT program is designed to get anyone started & in shape through boxing. A complete novice, to begin implementing the art of boxing into their existing exercise program. This commentary is an introduction into the art of shadow boxing. The benefits of shadow boxing are innumerable, regular proper practice leads to overall mental acuity and physical dexterity.
At the beginner level, I have my students sit on the punches, meaning not having to put any emphasis on weight transfer. Rather just having them focus on balance and rhythm. Just having them keep the hands moving, twisting the hips slightly without lifting the ball of foot, as to imply weight transfer. At this stage they are simply gathering their tools. I check their guard, and watch for the snap from the elbow, and the slight roll of the shoulder, I do not even emphasis throwing the punches with power.
Power will naturally follow once you generate momentum, which leads to speed, once balance and speed align this leads to power! One needs to distinguish the difference of SHADOW BOXING & POWER PUNCHING! This is crucial....
