あらすじ・解説
Those few surviving the gunfire below were teleported aboard the hovering UFO in an automatic, emergency reaction.
Andrew Davis, a human being, sat on the floor of this craft, holding his beautiful alien lover Julie, rocking back and forth desperately pleading for her to speak; but she could only lazily follow him with her eyes. Julie was a member of a race of beings called The Mariner who originated deep within the Earthly oceans. She was identical in external appearance to humans but had unnaturally deep green eyes.
Warm, pink liquid pooled around them on the floor - it was the Mariner equivalent of blood.
Andrew clung to Julie, struggling for a way to rescue her from the terrible wounds she had incurred.
Turning about to his old friend Jake Henderson, also human, he pleaded, “Jocko, can you do something here...help me, can’t you stop this, can’t you fix this”?
Jake Henderson, also known as Jocko, possessed incredible powers, but at this moment he was helpless do anything other than be another witness to life ebbing from Julie’s body.
He was exhausted and numb; his strength was sapped and he was rendered powerless to help. His remarkable powers did not include knowledge of Mariner anatomy or first aid, and he sank to his knees in despair.
Andrew kissed Julie’s beautiful pale face over and over again, then finally realizing the futility, gently released her. Ed, always the objective and efficient soul, promptly retrieved a large, white paper blanket and respectfully covered her. Like Julie, Ed was a Mariner from the ocean depths, posing as human. This was a group of friends who had just been subjected to a sudden, horrific assault that left several dead below.
“So this is the end - this is all finished, isn’t it,” Andrew pleaded. There is no way to undo this, is there? I mean, nobody can fix this now, can they...”
Andrew lamented aimlessly without actually expecting answers.
