An old cottage by the beach proves more than photogenic to the magazine photographer and her writer friend. They become entangled in nightmares (complete with, perhaps, psychic wounds, perhaps not) and ghostly visions they cannot explain.
Nor can they explain the eccentricities of their colleague as he spies an antique toy fire truck the women bring back after a return trip to the cottage. They wonder as he makes a hasty exit from their boss's office only to turn up later and disrupt their lives forever.
Unknown to them, their eccentric colleague shares a common past with the cottage and its decades-old history of tragedy - a history that continues to accumulate as the body count rises.
