あらすじ・解説
Mark wrote his gospel for the Christian community in Rome when they were suffering greatly, having lost both Peter and Paul along with many others due to the persecutions under Nero. The people were badly shaken in their faith by the passing of the first generation of believers, so Mark set out to console, comfort and encourage them as his readers. This he did, following everything he had received from Peter and from Paul, by demonstrating the perfect humanity and the perfect divinity of Jesus in the midst of his suffering.
If today we have some difficulty perceiving the divinity of Jesus in Mark this would be because his divinity is in a way masked behind his humility, and we might not immediately see humility as compatible with divine glory. Contemplating Christ means more than fixing our eyes on his visible humanity but being inwardly focused on his divinity as it shines through his full humanity.
This meditation in Mark’s gospel by Daniel Bourguet is presented in two volumes which examine a number of episodes in Jesus’ life.
