COMMUNITY PRACTICE with Connie Zheng
In this episode, we bring you a conversation with Connie Zheng, a Chinese-born artist, writer and filmmaker based out of xučyun / Oakland, California. Connie is a former Artist-in-Residence at 41 Ross - The Chinese Culture Center’s exchange platform for emerging API artists to develop work and expand on community-based practices located in SF’s Chinatown. Projects such as large-scale maps, speculative seed exchanges, seed-making workshops, and experimental films are strategies for navigating diasporic memory, the continued weight of history and the possibilities for collective imagining amidst ongoing and future ecological transformations.
Transmission Studio is a series of intimate conversations with the independent artists and community-based organizations living and working within the vibrant, complicated and ever-evolving ecosystem of San Francisco arts and culture. It aspires to inform, inspire and more importantly spark meaningful and critical dialogue on the state of the artists who remain committed to this city in spite of unprecedented social, economic and political challenges.
