Part of the trauma of mold poisoning is that so few people understand or even believe what you are going through. Legal options are limited for renters because local Departments of Health have no real understanding of the dangers of mold. The medical establishment is largely clueless about the dangers or how to treat mold poisoning. The worst is when your own friends and family don’t believe what you are going through. They can evolve from disbelief to mocking to outright harassment and abuse.
You are already suffering physically, you might have drained your finances and are suffering financially, and the people you normally turn to for support turn their back on you, or worse. Many of us mold survivors have had to disengage with family, friends, or professionals in our business network. Whether you call it ghosting, estrangement, or disengaging, it is often much healthier for our mental and emotional health to not talk or communicate with certain people. This is a difficult decision to make and often leaves us distraught, grieving, and feeling very alone.
That’s why I’ve asked my good friend Sara Makin to speak on the topic. She is the Founder and CEO of Makin Wellness, a mental health practice in Pittsburgh with the highest-rated online therapists & counselors in Pennsylvania. She is also an Amazon best-selling author and is quite simply the BEST mental health professional I have ever worked with.
