Please note that although The Concept of Us is a podcast for everyone, this particular episode focuses on the Muslim community.
In this episode of The Concept of Us, we discuss a concerning statistic reported by the @MuslimYouthHelpline - 33% of their callers discussing suicide were aged 10-19. We wanted to raise awareness to the fact that young children are struggling with suicidal thoughts, too.
Our conversation centers around the importance of investing in creating safe spaces for young people to share their emotions and set the right examples for future generations. We also discuss a very informative and helpful episode called "Responding to Suicide" on Yaqeen Institute's Double Take Podcast. In this particular episode, Dr. Farah Islam, Director of the Psychospirituality Department at Yaqeen Institute, emphasizes the importance of starting mental health education early and providing young people with ways to learn about mental health. Dr. Islam also makes the point that suicide is impermissible because Allah does not want that kind of death for us.
As Muslims, it is crucial to understand that Allah is not angry with us for our suicidal thoughts. Remember that Allah is always there for us and seeking help is a brave and necessary step towards healing. Join us in this important conversation on mental health and suicide prevention.
