Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise are Britain’s favourite comedy act, and they are the reason why my blog and podcast exist. It was an honour and a privilege talking to Eric’s son about the career of these two extraordinary comic geniuses, renowned by many of today’s comedians.

  • EPISODE 128: PHIL NICHOL
    2024/09/07

In this episode, I talk to the amazing comedian, PHIL NICHOL

Comedian, actor, writer, musician, podcaster, and director, Nichol is a man of many talents. As a comic, he has reduced me to tears of laughter on many occasions. A regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and UK comedy circuit, Nichol’s style of comedy is outrageous, unhinged, unexpected, and hysterically funny.

Among many performances over the years, at the Edinburgh Fringe, I have watched Nichol as a guest for Nicholas Parsons Happy Hour in 2005, appear in the plays Talk Radio and True West (both 2006), Killer Joe (2007), and The School for Scandal (2009) and Hughie in 2019. He was a guest for Mervyn Stutter’s 20th Anniversary Pick of the Fringe in 2012 and in London, Downstairs at The Kings Head 40th Anniversary Show in 2023.

I have watched Bennett compering for Always Be Comedy in 2019, co-creating and appearing in Dan Vs Food at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, as a guest for Live at Limehouse in 2020, Always Be Comedy Online: The James Gill Roast in 2021, The Comedy Arcade Live, and his own special I Don’t Care For The Man Myself at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2023, and Sofa So Funny! in 2024.

  • EPISODE 123: LOUISE ATKINSON
    2024/07/06

In this episode, I talk to the wonderful comedian, LOUISE ATKINSON.

Hailing from Hull, Atkinson has performed at many comedy nights on the UK circuit and is wonderfully affable and confident on stage. Her themes are extremely relatable, and she delivers exceptionally funny observations on life.

I first saw Atkinson on stage as a finalist in the Amused Moose National New Comic Final at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. The deserved winner was Maisie Adam, yet Atkinson showed great promise, and I watched her again as a guest act for Birdies Comedy showcase in 2018 and then for Tickled Pink Supporting Women in Comedy at 21 Soho in in 2022. In 2023, I saw her brilliant debut solo show Mates at the Vaults Festival and in 2024, a work-in-progress of her new show, She Got the Look, at the Hastings Comedy Festival.
