  • Israeli strike kills six volunteer brothers delivering food in Gaza, sparking grief and condemnation
    2025/04/17
An Israeli airstrike on a charity food delivery vehicle in Gaza’s Deir el-Balah killed six volunteer brothers, aged 10 to 34, as they delivered food to civilians amid the humanitarian crisis. The attack has devastated their community, with grieving parents describing their sons as unarmed civilians helping the starving. Mourners gathered to pray over the bodies, a scene now tragically familiar across the besieged enclave. The strike comes as Israel intensifies military operations, with ceasefire negotiations stalled. Relatives condemned the targeting of aid workers during widespread shortages of food and medicine. The brothers’ deaths highlight the toll on civilians in the conflict, with entire families erased by strikes. Their community now bears yet another loss in a war with no end in sight.

  • Rafah now part of Israeli ‘security zone’ says defence minister
    2025/04/15
Israel's Defence Minister, Israel Katz, says the military has taken full control of the so-called “Morag Corridor” in Gaza, which effectively cuts off the south, from the rest of the Strip. This leaves Rafah totally isolated from Khan Younis and other areas. The Israeli defence minister says the military will also expand, to other parts of Gaza. But it's not the only barrier Israeli forces have created in the Strip, since the war started. The so-called "Netzarim Corridor", which cuts off the north from the rest of Gaza, has been a flashpoint in recent weeks. And the "Philadelphi Corridor" runs along Gaza's southern border with Egypt.

Membership surged after the invasion of Ukraine, with over 16,000 members and hundreds joining monthly. Volunteers train for crisis response and defence, many driven by family histories of Soviet oppression. The government backs the mobilisation, urging national resilience in key sectors beyond military upgrades. Strategic concerns include the Klaipeda port near Kaliningrad, increasing the region’s vulnerability. The Union reflects Lithuania’s broader defence strategy focused on civilian preparedness. For recruits, joining is both personal and patriotic—a bid to prevent history from repeating.
