Coordinator of the Supported Transition Assistance Response Scheme (STARS) Tanya Southworth discusses the insights her dedicated group of aged care specialist volunteers have gained from their work with older people who are ‘Bed Blocked’ in hospital, and their families. Tanya brings the issue back to the older people who are awaiting appropriate care and shares some of the misapprehensions and concerns both older people and their families have about moving into residential services. She reveals the real-life impacts that well-informed volunteers can have, and shares strategies we can all put in place to make sure our wishes are known and respected as we successfully move to our own older age.
