    In Galatians 2 Paul describes the way the leaders of the Jerusalem Church affirmed his ministry with "the right hand of fellowship." Clasped right hands were a sign of friendship and trust, an idiom of the day for pledging friendship and acknowledging agreement. The fellowship they shared, symbolized by the clasping of hands, was the shared life of the Holy Spirit. For these reasons, churches have used "the right hand of fellowship" to welcome new members into the body for centuries. It has been a formal pledge of acceptance, of love and partnership in the gospel for local churches.

    Last week's study on harvesting spiritual fruit ended with Gal.. 6:6, a verse on financial giving: "Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the on who teaches." Paul proclaims the corporate responsibility that these believers had to provide financially for their pastors. In the following four verses, he will proclaim how this group responsibility is really the product of their personal responsibility to sow good seeds as a child of God. It is good when we share with those who teach us God's Word. But what if we don't do that? What if we don't share? Paul's warning regarding the law of the harvest is a sober warning for all of life.

He challenges the Galatians to harvest the spiritual fruit he has just unpacked for them. Harvest time comes in best with the help of others. There is more joy in picking berries when you do it with someone else. You can bring in more harvest when you do it in community. Let's look at harvesting some spiritual fruit.
