Setting boundaries is essential in all areas of life—whether at work, home, with friends, family, or peers. Yet, boundaries can be one of the hardest skills to develop because people often feel conflicted, worrying it may seem selfish. However, in the journey of growth and healing, boundaries are vital. We often discuss boundaries in parenting because our children are the next generation, and our focus should be on them. By setting boundaries, we model what it means to prioritize self-care, showing them the importance of putting themselves first when needed. Boundaries lead to more effective communication when set respectfully and in the moment, rather than delayed. Allowing tension to build before setting boundaries can create unnecessary conflict, so addressing them promptly is key.
