    Episode 68. Survive and Advance.

September. For me... it was my danger zone. When I coached high school I looked at the month of September with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. Mostly anxiety. It was great to get the team back together in school but I also knew that coming back to school meant so much more stress for the athletes.

The schedules they had all Summer were about to get completely thrown out. Class. Homework. Sickness. Races. Teachers. Classmates. Sickness. Late lunches. Early lunches. Missed breakfasts. Poor sleep. September was hard. And we were supposed to get better while we dealt with all of this?

Everyone has their own September. Could be another month of the year like December or January or June. Could be a danger zone that lasts a week or a day. Sometimes it can feel like all you can do is survive and advance. So, if you can learn how to handle and deal with and get through your own "September" a better way then you will not just survive and advance you will thrive and move forward. That's what I did with my Septembers.

Hope you enjoy this episode and thank you to mindset performance coach extraordinaire tammie bennett of the show up society for another great MIndset Minute.

Cheers and thank you for listening!

  • How To Make Running Fun (Again)
    2024/09/12

Episode 67. How To Make Running Fun (Again).

You do know that running is supposed to be fun... right? This is a big and important episode. That's why I brought the best Coach Bennett to the show! That's right! Coach tammie bennett is back! She's the mindset performance coach that we all know and love and she's back for this most excellent episode. Running is supposed to be fun! Doesn't mean it's always going to be easy. Doesn't mean it's not supposed to be hard and challenging. It just means that running is supposed to be fun. And maybe those hardest and most challenging parts are supposed to be the most fun parts of it all!

When running is fun it means your ending runs wanting to run again and not dreading the next run. It means that you are being a better teammate to yourself. It means you have a better chance at getting better and having fun doing it. So let’s make sure that running is fun (again).

I hope you have fun listening to this episode.

    Cheers,
    Coach Bennett

  • Suckcess: How To Deal With A Bad Run
    2024/09/05

Episode 66. Suckcess: How To Deal With A Bad Run

Those crap runs. They're going to happen now and again. No way around it. Sometimes you're just going to feel sluggish, out of shape, slow. Sometimes you're going to be bored the entire run. Unmotivated. Uninspired. You name it. Sometimes you're going to know why the run was terrible and other times you're going to be lost when it comes to an explanation for the crappy run you just ran.

    So, what to do?
Well, that's what this episode is all about!

By the end of this show you'll know just how you can look for and find the suckcess in a run that sucks. Believe me, it's there. And sometimes that suckcess can be the most satisfying, substantial, impactful and insightful kind of success.

I hope you love the the episode.
Cheers and thank you for listening!

    Episode 65. Lessons From Olympus.

Okay, let's talk about Paris 2024! Because there is so much to talk about. Now, this isn't an episode of me breaking down certain events or races (but we can do that in a future episode if you want!). I give you my biggest takeaways from the games as a whole. And I watched the summer games through a few different lenses. I watched as a fan. I watched as an athlete. I watched as a coach. And I watched as a simple human being. And each of this different viewpoints strengthened the other viewpoints. I hope you enjoy this episode as I roll through some of the great lessons from the Olympic games. And make sure you watch the Paralympics that start August 28th and go through September 8th!

  • Hope
    2024/08/22

    Episode 64. Hope.

If you run then you're a hopeful person. If you are on a run... you have hope that the run will help you get better in some way. And if you have ever been around a starting line then you have been near one of the most hopeful places on this space rock. And that's a good thing because if you want to run as best as you can then you not only need to have hope you need to know you got it.

This is an episode (following episode 62 Confidence and episode 63 Patience) about another essential ingredient for running success. Whether it's the hope one has before a run or the hope one has when they write a training plan or the hope one has when they start a race it's obvious that hope is always there for the most successful runners and coaches.

I hope you love the episode. See what I did there. I hope so.

    Cheers,
    Coach Bennett

  • Patience

    Episode 63. Patience.

All we need is just a little patience. That's what Guns N' Roses said at least. And they were close. We need more than patience. But we do definitely need some patience. This episode is all about one of the essential ingredients to success in running. And it's an important episode because so many runners misconstrue what patience really means. It's not inaction. It's not wasting time. It's not being detached or complacent wither. Patience demands perseverance. And it demands courage and hope. And all of those things help you become a better runner... and a better person too. So, enjoy the episode and please be patient with some of my rambling. You'll be better for it. And thank you to coach tammie of the Show Up Society for another great Mindset Minute.

    Cheers,

    Episode 62. Confidence.

This one is an important one because success in this most excellent sport of ours is so dependent on your mental and mindful state. And whether or not you are confident plays such a big part on both your mental and mindful state. The problem is that so many athletes and coaches (and parents and teammates) don't understand what confidence really is (and isn't) or how to work on it. Make sure you give this episode a listen and share it with athletes, coaches and parents because we are

  • Diversity Wins
    2024/08/01

    Episode 61: Diversity Wins

That's right. Diversity wins. That simple sentence is one of my foundational truths as a coach. And I'm not just talking about making sure that you're running recovery runs and long runs and fartlek runs and tempo runs and intervals and hill workouts. I do mean all that too. But I'm also talking about diversifying your purposes and your goals. And I'm talking about bringing diversity into your mindset and how you measure the success of your running. I'm talking about making sure that consistency doesn't become constantly. And I'm talking about diversity should lead to flexibility and should strengthen your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses. I talk about so much more but you are just going to need to listen to the episode to find out what else all that is.
There's also a Mindset Minute with the always great coach tammie of the show up society. It's an all around great episode. And yes, this is about running and this is not about running.

Cheers and thank you for listening!
