  • Judge Rules Against Gabby Petito Family in Moab Police Lawsuit
    2024/11/23

Gabby Petito was strangled by her then boyfriend Brian Laundrie while the pair were on a cross-country van trip. The FBI report states that Laundrie confesses to the murder in a hand written notebook, found near the remains of Laundrie's body after he committed suicide. According to the report, Laundrie tried to cover up Petito's death by using the woman's debit card, and then also sending text messages from her phone, to give the impression that Gabby was still alive. During the trip, a domestic violence episode was caught on Moab police body cam, after a 911 call came in reporting a man slapping a woman.

The footage shows Petito was injured with scratches and bruises. Police determined however that Petito was the aggressor, after she admitted hitting Laundrie. The pair was separated for the night, with no domestic violence counseling.

Petito's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Moab Police Department. Utah's 7th District Court Judge Don Torgerson dismissed the case, citing governmental immunity. Torgerson said he is bound to follow the law as it currently exists and follow rulings of other courts. The Petito's attorney argued to end just the police immunity. He added the Court of Appeals has the authority to determine whether the governmental immunity law is constitutional.

  • DIDDY JAIL-CELL RAID: DEMANDS "DIG UP DIRT" ON VICTIMS
    2024/11/22

As part of the interagency contraband sweep at the MDC, agents confiscate 19 pages of notes from Sean Combs’ belongings and turn them over to federal prosecutors. Among those notes are inspirational quotes, reminders about family and financial matters that need to be discussed, and a ‘To-Do List.’ That list included a need to instruct a family member to quote “find dirt” on two potential victims, and quote “find everything” on another victim.

Attorney Marc Angifilo expressed his shock and outrage that he was not made aware prosecutors were in possession of the notes for weeks after they were confiscated. Agnifilo accuses prosecutors of a ‘complete institutional failure’ and claims Combs’ constitutional rights have been violated, as those handwritten notes contained privileged materials. His defense team now calling for a dismissal of the indictment or a recusal of the prosecution team.

Prosecutors argue there has been no wrongdoing, as the notes went to a “Filter team” to confirm they did not contain privileged information before prosecutors ever laid eyes on them. Federal agent Mary Slavik says her team acted “in a completely appropriate fashion” in regard to the 19 pages of documents.

Judge Subramanian calls an emergency hearing on the matter. Shockingly, Combs appears for the hearing unshackled—a freedom granted for all future court appearances. Combs seems more at ease, hugs his attorneys, and surveys the courtroom to see who is in attendance. Judge Subramanian rules that the notes will not be allowed into evidence, and prosecutors must destroy any and all copies of the documents.

  • JUSTICE! LAKEN RILEY MURDER SUSPECT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS
    2024/11/20

Jose Ibarra, the only suspect in the murder of UGA jogger Laken Riley, has been found guilty of all charges. There are ten in all: three counts of felony murder, as well as malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, and “peeping Tom.”

In shocking testimony, University of Georgia Police Sgt. Sophie Raboud recounted the last moments of Laken Riley's life, breaking down the minutes into a timeline. Preparing for the last jog of her life, Riley reaches out to her mother by text at 8:55 a.m. asking if she is free to talk. At 9:03 a.m. Riley calls her mother. Laken Riley then listens to music and is seen on a trail camera at 9:05 a.m. She carries her iPhone in her left hand which is facing toward the intramural fields. At 9:06 a.m. Laken Riley runs out of view of the camera. Minutes after Laken Riley is last seen jogging on a trail camera she calls 911 by activating the SOS app on her iPhone at 9:11am. The 911 dispatcher doesn't speak with anyone before the call is terminated from Laken Riley's end of the call so the dispatcher calls back twice with no answer. Laken Riley's phone also receives a call from her mother at 9:24 a.m. and when Laken fails to answer the call, her mother sends a text at 9:38 a.m. "Call me when you can."

During closing arguments State Prosecutor Shelia Ross State reiterated each of the charges and the supporting evidence. Ross described Ibarra as “a monstrously guilty individual.”

Defense attorney Kaitlyn Beck offered two alternative theories, that DNA was transferred in the clothes strewn about the apartment, inferring Ibarra's brother Diego was the murderer. She also suggested that Ibarra may have been an accomplice, but not the murderer.

Ultimately, Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard determined Jose Ibarra to be guilty on all counts.
