Can you believe this is part 5 of this series??? Tonight, we have a special treat. David Carter, author of the book I used for source material in the first episode in this series, episode 104 joins us. (In My Mother’s Home) He was the detective on that case, and conducted the raid on Rima’s compound. He tells us the behind the scenes stuff on his investigation, and much more. This was one of my most anticipated interviews, and it is a GOOD ONE!

Kevin flying solo again! Harry Wheeler was a lawman of the Old West who became one of the most colorful and controversial figures in Arizona’s frontier history. Known for his hard-edged approach to keeping order in a violent and lawless territory, Wheeler served as a sheriff and later as a U.S. Marshal, crossing paths with outlaws, gunfighters, miners, and other rough characters who populated the Arizona frontier. His career was marked by shootouts, arrests, political battles, and plenty of Old West drama, making his story a fascinating look at what it meant to wear a badge when the line between lawman and outlaw could sometimes be dangerously thin.

Kevin takes lead on this episode BY HIMSELF! This is the first episode on this podcast that Bill is not on, but Kevin explains why.

The Millerites. A cult that back in the mid 1800s became so prominent that thousands of people bought into it, believing that the rapture was immanent. They liquidated everything they owned because William Miller convinced everyone that the rapture would occur on a specific date. It didn't happen. No worries though! He got it right the second time!

Yeah, about that....

Kevin did a great job! Check it out!

Kevin takes the lead tonight! Edward Paisnel was born in 1925 on the island of Jersey in the English Channel — a small, quiet island that had been occupied by Nazi Germany during WWII and that most people associate with tax havens and dairy cows rather than one of the most disturbing criminal casesin British history. He was a married man, a father figure to foster children, a pillar of the community who dressed as Father Christmas at local events and was known to be kind to children. He was also, for eleven years, the most wanted man in Jersey — a serial rapist who stalked his victims at night in a handmade costume of nails and toads, broke into homes, and terrorized the island's population so thoroughly that families locked their doors for over a decade while police repeatedly came up empty. The episode covers his deeply strange early life, his marriage to a woman who ran a business catering to children, the bizarre occult paraphernalia found in a secret room in his home, the eleven-year investigation that couldn'tcatch him, and the accidental traffic stop in 1971 that finally ended it. It covers his trial, his conviction on multiple counts including rape and indecent assault, his 30-year sentence, his death in 1994, and the question that his case leaves open: how does a man live a double life that specific and that monstrous for over a decade while the people around him see nothing? It also covers the detail that his wife — who had run a business called Auntie Ivu's Party for children — claimed she had no idea. And the detail that searchers found a secret room in his home containing a correspondence with a Satanic church, a specially made jacket covered in nails and concrete, four live toads, and photographs.

A third survivor of the Insane Canadian Cult from episodes 104, 123, and 162 has come forward. Cliff joins us, and tells his experiences in the early days, leading up to the raid, which was when he decided it was time to go. He also tells us how his life was impacted and how he coped with the trauma. NOTE: If you haven’t heard episode 104 yet, you need to listen to it first. This has definitely become an ongoing series!

In this episode, we take a deep dive into the tragic murder of Sydney Loofe, the 24-year-old Nebraska woman whose disappearance in November 2017 quickly became one of the most disturbing cases in recent memory. What began with a Tinder date ended in a horrifying crime that captivated the nation and ultimately led investigators to Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell.

We’re also joined by author Chet Hardin, who wrote a book about the case based on his interviews with perps, Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell. Chet offers a unique perspective on the case and discusses his conversations with the two people at the center of it, giving us an opportunity to examine their accounts, the investigation, and the events surrounding Sydney’s death from a perspective rarely available to the public. And, we had a lot of fun as well. I think we found a new and improved way to have authors on the show.
