  • LUKE 17:26-36 It can be really easy to get caught up in our daily lives and in all the things we want or need to do. We go to school, work, hang out with friends and family, play sports, take part in activities—and it can feel like life is only about these things. We can forget that these things are so very temporary. The truth is that these activities aren’t sinful. In fact, many of them are good and give us the opportunity to live out our faith! But if we aren’t careful, we allow all of it to distract us from the truth that nothing we accomplish here carries any weight in eternity. One day, Jesus will return for us, and we’ll join Him for eternity. We need to be ready, and we prepare while we’re living our daily lives. In Noah’s day, the people were so engrossed in their own lives that they didn’t pause and consider a coming judgment. Maybe they saw Noah building the ark and chose to ignore the warning; maybe they heard the warning and chose not to believe in a coming flood; or maybe they never heard because their lives were too busy. The people continued to live as if a flood wasn’t on the way, and sometimes do the same: we live as if here and now is all there is. But eternity is coming. While we live and work and play, we must keep eternity in our minds. We must obey the Lord and show others how to know Him before it’s too late. WHEN ARE YOU TEMPTED TO BELIEVE THE HERE AND NOW IS ALL THAT MATTERS? WHAT CAN YOU DO EACH DAY TO REMIND YOURSELF ETERNITY IS COMING? HOW SHOULD THIS TRUTH INFLUENCE YOUR DAILY LIFE? PRAY GOD, HELP ME REMEMBER ETERNITY IS COMING. HELP ME LIVE IN OBEDIENCE TO YOU SO THAT OTHERS MAY KNOW YOU.
