Kelley Williams Bolar made national headlines in 2011 for "district jumping" meaning she enrolled her daughters in a school district in which she did not live. It is good to be back! Welcome to our first episode of 2024! I had the awesome opportunity to visit the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia and I am sharing with you a few takeaways of the session I attended called Reaching and Teaching Boys. Dreams Academy is our organization that works with African American males ages 10 to 15 and so I thought it advantageous to attend this session to learn, to be inspired, and to even have some messages reinforced that I could bring home and also share with you. The Village at Dreams Academy is a community for single mothers who are raising black boys under 18. We had a virtual meeting with our friend Kenny "JoJo" Smith, a former guest on the DWT podcast to discuss Black Boys in the classroom. Our moms expressed frustration with the education system, classroom relationships, homework, and more. Listen in as we dive into this necessary conversation!
