World War II D-Day veteran Trooper Cecil Newton served as a gunner and loader with the British 4/7 Royal Dragoon Guards, an armoured regiment of the 8th Armoured Brigade attached to the British 50th Infantry Division. He landed in Normandy on D-Day in an amphibious Sherman DD Tank five minutes prior to the infantry in order to give fire-support to the assault wave. He then battled through Normandy and Belgium until he was wounded in Holland. This episode is Part I of Cecil’s story and covers up to and including D-Day.
