Coming from a non- military background and the only soldier from his family, this sincere, committed, easy going, empathetic 23 year young officer went to war within 6 months of his service to come back as the only Army Officer from his state and his regiment to be honoured with a Gallantry Award of India, for his leadership, courage and unflinching devotion to duty during The Kargil War of 1999. Coming from the Indian state of West Bengal and like the film Shatranj Ke Khilari, Lt Dutta was a crucial defender of his nation in its striking war victory. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
