To close out our month of April after our month of being absent, Gabbi presents a Native American case. This is the case of Helen Betty Osborne and her younger brother, who would be murdered years later, Kalvin John Osborne. Helen, or Betty Osborne as she was affectionately called by friends, was a Cree Aboriginal woman from Norway House reserve who was kidnapped and murdered while walking down Third Street late one evening in The Pas, Manitoba. Both Osborne children were born and raised in Norway House, Manitoba, with Helen being the eldest of 12 children born to Joe and Justine Osborne. Her ambition was to go to college and become a teacher, but her life was cruelly snuffed out on November 13, 1971 and would go unsolved for over 16 years. 37 years later her brother Kalvin would be murdered as well in his own apartment on March 26, 2008. Kalvin was deemed the fun uncle, supporting himself over the years as a laborer, he enjoyed doing drag with his friends and being who he was always meant to be, regardless of what anyone thought. Tune in this week as we shine a light on two Native American lives that were taken too soon, but are not forgotten.
