  • EP 18 | Turning the past into action
    2024/10/01
Civil society organisations, particularly climate and environmental groups, play a critical role in addressing climate change and benefiting society. However, like all organisations, they also leave an ecological footprint.

In this episode, we talk with Mattias Söderberg, Global Climate Lead at DanChurchAid, and explore their groundbreaking initiative to calculate their historical climate footprint and take responsibility for their greenhouse gas emissions over the past 100 years of operations. We hear about the motivations behind this effort, the challenges encountered, and the key findings. We also delve into the broader role of civil society in addressing the climate crisis and the importance of “walking the talk” when advocating for climate action.

DanChurchAid is a Danish humanitarian non-governmental organisation that has existed for more than 100 years and aims to strengthen the world’s poorest people in their struggle for a life in dignity.

  • Ep 17 | Community-led initiatives: From individual, to collective action
    2024/05/08
What are the community-led initiatives and what impact can they make in order to tackle the social and the environmental challenges we are facing?

In this episode, we discuss the power of collective action and learn how it can lead to behavioural and systemic changes for a safer and more sustainable future. We talk with Nina Klein, Policy Leader at Ecolise, the European network for community-led initiatives on climate change and sustainability, who emphasises the importance of working together. She sheds light on initiatives that can be seen as resilience labs and the political demand for everybody to have the right and the choice to live sustainably.

Ecolise is a coalition of organisations engaged in promoting and supporting local communities across Europe in their efforts to build pathways to a sustainable future.

  • EP 16 | Gender inequalities in the climate crisis
    2024/04/05
How does the climate crisis relate to gender inequalities? Why should we apply a gender lens when it comes to climate policy?

In this episode, we explore the intersection of gender and the climate crisis, and the need to put gender justice at the heart of climate justice. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by extreme weather events and other climate impacts, especially those in vulnerable communities in the Global South. When the climate crisis hits a community, women and girls struggle the most to access food, water, energy, health, services, education, and livelihood.

In this episode, we hear from Elisabeth in southeastern Kenya, who shares her firsthand experience with the consequences of the climate crisis and we speak with Agnes Schim van der Loeff, climate and justice policy advisor at ActionAid, about the issues, causes, and possible just solutions.

ActionAid is a global federation working towards a just, fair, and sustainable world in which everybody enjoys the right to a life of dignity and freedom from poverty and oppression.
