Its safe to say that us humans have always been curious about what exists beyond what we can see with our own eyes. By 1400 BCE, discovered Hindu texts show that we were already beginning to map the space around us. Astrology can be broadly considered the search for human meaning in the sky. It makes sense then, that artists, including musicians and film makers, have always found huge inspiration in the space around us. It also makes for some great metaphors. On this episode we showcase four bands who did just that.
We also look briefly at TV and film, who in particular have often tapped into the mystery and immense wonder of the universe to great effect.

Given his somewhat unhealthy obsession with music documentaries, Mark takes the lead on this episode. Focussing on five lesser known documentaries, covering the stories of some really interesting bands. From the challenges of touring in a small van, for weeks on end, to dealing with profound loss. All these films have something in common, they are all: fascinating, entertaining and heartbreaking . In 2017 comedian James Acaster had a breakdown. This followed the end of his relationship with his long term partner and also his manager. He sort solace by immersing himself in the music of 2016, leading to him strongly believing that 2016 was the greatest year for music ever, amassing over 700 albums to prove it. Lets face it, most of us can't get away with walking very far barefoot. The first shoes emerged in the ice age in 40000bc and were made of bark. By 2023, the footwear industry is estimated to be worth around USD 403.18 billion.
