  • Episode 11: Rogue Manoeuvres
    2024/10/17

While Matt and Nick briefly touch on the international break and the England men's team, (and even then their analysis is mainly about Bukayo Saka's Oyster card), most of their attention is on all things WSL! This includes the Chelsea's Women's side 3-2 win over Real Madrid and their 1-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates. The lads also go on to discuss the Fantasy Women's Super League game, which Nick has already started playing, and Matt announces his plans for an FPL Pod VS Tok episode featuring action from the WSL! More details coming soon.

Episode 11 also sees Nick review his Tik-Tok of the Week and this time it's the beautifully groomed FPL Addict who gets the Pod VS Tok treatment.

With Matt wrangling over whether to wildcard or not to wildcard, Nick announces that he is in fact playing this chip in a move that could make or break his season. Will this see him continue to sail up the ranks on a sea of green arrows or is this an act of hubris that will bring Team Pod back into the title race? Stay tuned to this and future episodes listeners to find out!

With the brothers not getting the chance to see any live games ahead of this week's episode, the footie clips in this episode feature some of the more random exchanges between Matt and Nick during the Tooting and Mitcham VS Camberley Town match. This includes them naming different clouds while there was a break in play. However, rest assured, Nick and Dad have since seen Balham FC VS AFC Croydon Athletic so there will be more non-league chat next week!

As always, you can compete against the brothers in the FPL Pod VS Tok mini-league, the code is: jeepsw.

  • Episode 10: Ring When You're Winning!
    2024/10/10

Ahead of the upcoming international break, Matt and Nick look back at how their respective teams performed in game week seven. This leads both of them to talk about the possibility of removing the Egyptian King Mo Salah in an effort to bolster their squad's points scoring potential! The Liverpool chat also sees Nick sing the praises of The Red's second choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, particularly in light of Alisson's hamstring injury!

The brother's wrangling around their under performing premium players also resonates with the question posed last week on FPL Family Podcast which was: "is FPL getting harder?" They discuss this quandary after Matt reviews FPL Family as his Podcast of the Week! Needless to say, Nick is far from impressed when his older brother describes Lee and Sam as FPL's answer to The Incredibles!

On the subject of all things film, Matt and Nick also talk about how the Joker would play FPL and there's more non-league action as Nick recounts his trip with Dad to see AFC Croydon Athletic take on Hythe Town! This includes analysis of Hythe's dominant performance, despite losing to the Rams, and their supporters' efforts to encourage their team, Portsmouth FC style, by ringing a bell at intervals during the game! Of course, Croydon fans described the away support as the "bell end!" This episode also features a few clips from the day!

In what was a more "rambly" episode than usual, the pod finishes with Matt celebrating the 10th anniversary of his and The Inside Left's J-League documentary, Together for the Goal. And before leaving you for another week, here are your deadlines and ways to contact us...

  • Episode 9: Sacked in the Morning
    2024/10/03

Alongside their weekly dose of FPL chat, Matt and Nick talk about their recent visit to the Imperial Sports Ground where they saw Tooting and Mitcham, (The Terrors), take on Camberley Town. This also prompts talk of some amusing improvised football chants, including the brother's favourite anthem "Comedy Town, what's the score?" Clips from the game, including Matt and Nick's beautiful singing voices, are placed at intervals during the show. Minute 24:30 also sees Matt manifest the Terrors taking a 2-1 lead!

The lads quickly hasten up the football pyramid to the Premier League as Nick reviews Fantasy Premier League powerhouses Holly Shand and FPL Raptor (Ross).

Listeners are then invited to the FPL Pod VS Tok training ground where Matt and Nick review their performances for game week six! This discussion includes thoughts on Crystal Palace's stuttering start to the season, Southhampton's Harwood-Bellis outscoring Arsenal's Saliba and Chris Wood's one in every two goal scoring record.

With this week bringing another victory for Team Tok, Matt's miserable run of form as manager of Team Pod is compounded as an unforced innuendo sees him fall into fits of laughter and Nick is left with the decision to either add to the mirth and chaos or keep the show on track. Spoiler: He does a bit of both!

    • Deadline to make changes is: Saturday 5th of October at 11:00.

  • Episode 8: Don't Let Me Down
    2024/09/26

In this episode, Nick returns to the starting line-up and hits the ground running as the brothers use this episode to review their respective team's performances in game weeks 4 and 5! With Matt chuckling away in the background, Nick goes "full Warnock" and runs the riot act over his charges and lets them know, in no uncertain terms, that they let him down. Other highlights include Matt's lament about leaving Dean Henderson on the bench for game week 5 and Nick Jackson, (he is for real), giving his FPL namesake manager a welcome boost and another strong performance for Team Tok!

All of this comes off the back of Matt and Nick welcoming new listeners to the pod after last week's promotion push, as well as a shout out to the established FPL content creators who have shared kind words about the show on Twitter, sorry, I mean X!

Despite his apparent sympathies to FPL players, Arne Slot and Liverpool are not spared in Nick's candid analysis of the Reds post Klopp. Manchester United are also in the firing line as the younger of the siblings talks about Chelsea's fixtures going forward.

We finish looking forward to game week 6 and our trip to AFC Wimbledon which, since the time of recording, has been called off due to flooding at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. Finally, the brothers leave with a tribute to Jermaine McGlashan after the coach left his role as manager at AFC Croydon Athletic.

We both hope you enjoy this latest episode and, as ever, we invite you to join the FPL Pod VS Tok mini league, the code of which is: jeepsw

  • Episode 7: ...Busy Making Other Plans.
    2024/09/19

One of the things about making a podcast regularly is that, sometimes, life gets in the way and in this episode Matt explains why Nick is taking a break this week.

He raises a toast to beautiful boy and loveable rogue Zappy and explains why FPL and football is important for one's wellbeing and mental health. Yes, it is just a game, but that's why it is so important!

He also references a powerful episode of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary which highlights the importance of the ritual of football and men's mental health and, in what has been a difficult week for the pod, provides updates on the FPL deadline as well as looking forward to Nick's return.

As always, if you do want to take on the brothers in their FPL mini-league, the code is: jeepsw

And remember, keep it fun and keep it FPL!

  • Episode 6: Back in the Game
    2024/09/13

In this episode Matt, Nick, Dad and birthday boy Zappy return to the Mayfield to see the mighty AFC Croydon Athletic take on Beaconsfield Town in the FA Isuzu trophy. A few clips of their adventures are dotted throughout the pod including the journey to the stadium where the lads stumble across an allotment open day, featuring great food and music!

With regards to all things FPL, Matt reviews the 59th Minute pod from FPL General, which inspires the conversation as to whether the new rolling transfers rule is a blessing or a curse.

Nick provides some solid advice about using your wildcard and Matt uses the end of the pod to get his excuses in as to why he is currently behind in the Pod VS Tok battle!

As you'll hear, we finally got our Insta and X (Twitter) accounts up and running and, don't forget you can compete against Matt and Nick by joining their league via the code: jeepsw!

  • Episode 5: International Break
    2024/09/07

Our 5th episode of the pod has dropped a little later than we would have liked, but it will be worth the wait as Matt regales Nick and the listeners with tales of his flaneuring in Paris, particularly his experiences of the 2024 Paralympic Games. (And, it is phryges not the fridge!).

In keeping with their other sporting adventures, the pod features 4 clips of Matt as he takes in the Opening Ceremony on the, oooh, Champs Elysees (00:00 - 1:27), the Bercy Arena for the Wheelchair Basketball Games, featuring GB Men V Germany Men and GB Women V Spain Women (23:20 - 25:06), La Defense Arena where he gained an important life lesson (43:12 - 46:19) and the pod finishes with some of the vibes from the Stade de France during one of the many medal ceremonies scheduled that night (48:03 - 48:31).

Matt is looking to make a spin-off pod dedicated to his Paris adventure but, in the meantime, Matt and Nick tackle the important business of FPL during the first international break of the season!

With Matt was swanning around in the French Capital, Nick holds the fort and reviews FPL PLUG!

The brothers then discuss some of the PL transfers in the latter stages of the window and whether these will influence their teams going forward. In keeping with the plug theme, this also sparks a lively debate between Sterling Vs Anelka with both players representing the Premier Leagues top clubs over their careers.

To compete against Matt and Nick in their mini-league, Nick is still running away with it atm, the code is jeepsw.

FPL Pod VS Tok is also in Instagram, check us out at:

  • Episode 4: Problems in the Technical Area
    2024/08/26

With Matt heading off to Paris for the Paralympics soon, the brothers have recorded a slightly earlier episode which sees them discuss their teams half way through Game Week 2. It's FPL Pod VS Tok meets Gillette Soccer Saturday, (or maybe not!).

Matt talks about his holiday plans, "if nothing else, there's always Euro Disney," with this week's pod also featuring a bit of French Jazz, by William King, to get him into the Parisian spirit.

There's also a review of the official Fantasy Off the Bench podcast featuring Lee Bomfield and Az Phillips. This leads Matt and Nick to discuss Spurs and their comfy stadium!

Listeners may also see at this stage that this week's edition is shorter than usual and that is because we experienced some technical issues putting this episode together. Matt explains more at the end, but normal service will be resumed after our mini-break with more reviews and FPL chat coming your way!

Also, if you would like to challenge Matt and Nick in their FPL mini-league, the code is: jeepsw.

See you soon and, remember, keep it fun and keep it FPL!
