Two Kinds of Trust – Man or God?

Let me start by asking you a question: Where do you place your trust?

Think about it—every single day, we trust in something. We trust that our cars will start in the morning. We trust that the chair we sit on won’t collapse. We trust that the banks will keep our money safe and that the government will provide stability. But what happens when these things fail? What happens when the people, systems, and institutions we rely on let us down?

Life is unpredictable. One moment, everything is going smoothly, and the next, we’re facing a crisis—an unexpected job loss, a health scare, a broken relationship, or a financial struggle.

In those moments, where do we turn?

1. Do we rely on our own wisdom and strength? Do we put our hope in human solutions?
2. Or do we turn to the only One who never fails—the Lord our God?

Jeremiah 17:5-8 presents us with a striking contrast—two very different kinds of trust.

1. One leads to barrenness and emptiness, like a dry bush in the desert.
2. The other leads to stability and fruitfulness, like a tree planted by living water.

The difference isn’t the circumstances—both people face the heat and the drought—the difference is where they are rooted.
