  • Episode 5 - The Notorious Hawkhurst Gang
    2022/06/01
We’ve all seen documentaries about modern day smugglers, or seen clips on the news. Todays smugglers are usually transporting Class A drugs or large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco. Items that are either illegal, or have a high import duty.

England in the 17th and 18th century was no different, but their contraband consisted of spirits, tea, wine and cloth. The British Government taxed imports so highly that, just like today, underground ways were found to bring goods into the country. And smuggling at this time was rife.

In this episode I will telling you about the infamous Hawkhurst Smugglers Gang.

But this would be the last time that Robert would enjoy these surroundings. In fact, this would be the last time that Robert would enjoy ANYTHING. As just a few hours later Roberts body was found laid on the grass a few metres from the road.

This is the story of Robert Dadd.
