  • Speak to the Rock
    2023/02/14

In Exodus 17 and Numbers 20, we see two similar stories about Moses with similar outcomes but very different consequences. Moses learned a lesson that can certainly speak into your life today. You can't rely on yesterday's methods to accomplish today's purpose. It's the same way in our walk with God. We can't let ourselves get so comfortable with what He's done in the past that we miss what He's doing right now.

  • Spoken Word: Introducing Jesus
    2023/02/10

This is a spoken word episode. It reads much like poetry with a musical backdrop and a theological theme. It is intended to be used for worship, meditation, or to accompany movement (like a walk).

I recently gained access to some early writings from my tenure at Winchester Church of God from 2011-2018. This one was the first public-facing "poem" I’d ever written.

One day, my father-in-law (a prince of a preacher, a dynamic orator) came into my office and asked me to find a poem, writing, or sermon excerpt that described the greatness of God. He was speaking at a large gathering of pastors in another state and wanted to use it as a supporting feature for his keynote sermon.

I had taken up the art of writing (via blogging) the year prior, and I really loved expressing my thoughts through modern and relevant written word. Confident in my writing ability, I honestly never searched the internet for a piece of content to present to him. Instead, I sat a my computer and wrote. It wasn’t until after he decided to use it that I told him I wrote it (you know, boyishly self-conscious and all). I had the privilege of hearing him deliver it to large audiences on a few occasions, and it was so fulfilling and inspiring to witness a gathering’s reaction and worshipful response to an excellently orated piece of your written expression toward God.

I wrote in response to this question I asked myself: If I were introducing Jesus as a keynote speaker, what would I say? When you are in the midst of nature’s beauty, when you are preparing your heart for worship, or when you are in need of a reminder of the God who is on your side and fighting for you, listen to this spoken word.

The script of this spoken word can be found here.

  • Spoken Word: The King Is Alive
    2023/02/06

This is a spoken word episode. It reads much like poetry with a musical backdrop and a theological theme. It is intended to be used for worship, meditation, or to accompany movement (like a walk). This particular spoken word was written for a sunrise Easter service in 2015. SM Lockridge, the legendary preacher who was the pastor of First Baptist Church in San Diego, once delivered his famous sermon excerpt called, "It's Friday, But Sunday's Coming." I absolutely loved the recitation and was inspired to write a piece to accompany it called, "It's Sunday and the King is Alive." I put the two together in spoken word fashion and have used it in sermons, in the middle of worship sets, and in various other forms. This is the first time it's being delivered in this type of experience.

  • Advent 2022 - Generosity
    2022/12/22

This Advent series is based on my book, The Great Adventure. In Matthew 2, we find the story of the wisemen who come to visit Jesus, now a toddler, to bring Him some generous gifts. There's a great lesson in their story for us to apply today.

  • Advent 2022 - Least Likely
    2022/12/14

This Advent series is based on my book, The Great Adventure. In Luke 2:1-7, we find the humble narrative of the birth of Jesus. Ordinary is the word I'd use to describe it best, but we both know it was anything but ordinary in the grand scheme of things.

  • Gratitude: A Sermon on Luke 17:11-19
    2022/11/22

It's Thanksgiving week, and we're talking about gratitude. Gratitude is the key that unlocks the blessings in life. In Luke 17:11-19, we find 10 lepers who were healed, and only one returns to Jesus to give thanks. I get super preachy in this episode (it's a sermon after all), but I think you'll see tons of insight from this story that is down-to-earth and applicable to your life. Ready or not, here we go! Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving :)
