This has catapulted designing for the healthcare industry to the centre stage and will lead to a far-reaching impact on how healthcare will evolve at a leapfrogging pace. This is a perfect opportunity to discuss the trends we see emerging on paradigm shift in user behaviour towards health, acceleration of development timelines, flexible manufacturing, supply chain management etc.

About Pratyusha:

Pratyusha is a co-founder of Nemocare wellness. She is an Industrial Designer with an electronics engineering background, Pratyusha had experiences that have made her sensitive towards needless neonatal and maternal deaths. With her efforts towards solving the problem, she is perfecting the art of designing life-saving solutions which are accessible, affordable and highly accurate. Her stories are not only moving but also insightful. Nemocare has developed a patented IoT enabled wearable on the newborn that continuously monitors the necessary vital parameters used to detect Apnea, Hypothermia and other distress conditions.

Synopsis:

One of the oldest and the biggest debates in the design community has been that form and function. What's overlooked, is the discussion around relevance and choice. We need to identify what is more suited for the purpose, or is more relevant - to the business, to the people, the environment, to the society, or simply to the job at hand.

The onus lies with the designer to make the right choice that is most relevant to the job, and this can only be achieved by cross-pollination of ideas with other disciplines. The future of design is thus acknowledging the intersectionality between design and other professions such as arts, business, engineering, law, medicine, biology, finance, or any other professions, to provide relevant and meaningful solutions.

About Nachiket:

Nachiket is the co-founder of Coeo Labs, an award-winning Med-Tech startup working in the field of emergency and critical care. During his stint at Coeo Labs, Nachiket and his team developed, patented, and commercialized two novel technologies that are now saving the lives of thousands of Indians.

Nachiket now resides in Toronto, Canada, after an exit from Coeo Labs and works at Grand Challenges Canada, an impact investment organization as an Investment Manager building and shaping the organization’s Humanitarian portfolio by finding innovations solving problems in the areas of Energy, Healthcare, Information access, and Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH),in conflict-affected geographies.

Deepak is going to talk about the latest technology trends in the design industry like VR, AI etc. Towards the end of his talk, he will focus on the topic of adding value to small scale industries through design. Which he considers is the need of the hour.

Deepak is a design professor and heads the Department of Design at IIT Hyderabad. He is leading Design Innovation Centre at IIT Hyderabad and is researching digital preservation of Indian heritage and Design Education for Schools. Previously, he set up the Photography Design discipline for the PG programme in National Institute of Design in collaboration with the University for Creative Arts, Farnham, UK. His research area also covers immersive technologies like Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality. Deepak John Mathew holds a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the M.S. University, Vadodara and has a PhD in Design Education from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Education, M.S. University Vadodara.

Arvind Lodaya trained in Product Design and has worked extensively in product, service & business innovation, design and branding. He works across sectors, teaches at premier institutes in India & overseas, and works with social-impact startups—including a museum on conflict, a tech-enabled vocational Skilling venture and a design-led business incubator.

With 30+ years covering most areas of design practice, Arvind has just begun a new chapter by writing the curriculum for a brand-new, future-looking undergraduate program in Communication Design for the just-launched Vidyashilp University in Bangalore. His strategic innovation, branding and social design consulting practice continues alongside.
