  • Episode 99: Defensive Disaster
    2024/10/27

In this episode (RECORDED BEFORE GAME VS ST-LOUIS), we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens defensive woes and the rumor that Kent Hughes is making call for a top 4 right-handed defenseman. Also, we discuss Martin St. Louis' press conference and what he said about Arber Xhekaj.

Kirby Dach is definitely rusty and not playing to his potential, but at the moment, there are some other concerns about his game. Is it time to be worried about him as a 2nd line center? Or is he just shaking off some of the rust off his game?

  • Episode 98: PK Subban Or Lane Hutson?
    2024/10/18

    In this episode, we discuss...

Our thoughts and feelings of the Canadiens start to the season. Any noteworthy moments?

Should we start being concerned about Cayden Primeau at the NHL level? While he hasn't had many starts yet, he has yet to seize his opportunities and show that he belongs at the NHL level. He has good moments, but he seems to struggle with consistency as the games go on.

Everyone is talking about Lane Hutson. Right now, does he deserve the praise and "flowers" he is getting? Or is it too much, too soon?

We play a little game where Matt asks us to pick one or the other. For this game, Matt asks Vito and Dave to pick one from the following list:

    1. PK Subban OR Lane Hutson
    2. Saku Koivu OR Nick Suzuki
    3. Juraj Slafkovsky OR Alex Kovalev
    4. Patrick Roy OR Carey Price
    5. Randy Cunneyworth OR Domenic Ducharme

We invite you to play the game with us. Please pick one or the other by providing your responses under the comments sections of the episode on YouTube

  • Episode 97: Arber Xhekaj In or Out?
    2024/10/06

    In this episode, we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens pre-season is FINALLY over. Were there any standouts? Who did well, surprised us the most, and should they make the team.

Arber Xhekaj had a very interesting pre-season. He was physical, took a lot of penalty minutes, defended his teammates, and was the "sheriff" the whole time. The question is, has the aspects of his game evolved enough to cement his position on the bottom pairing, over Jayden Struble?

Well, the Habs powerplay continued where it left off last season. It's been terrible. Are we going to see more of the same or is it just that Martin St. Louis has not had enough time to work on the powerplay?

  • Episode 96: Patrik Laine Injury - Dirty or Clean?
    2024/09/29

    In this episode, we discuss...

Patrik Laine had to be helped off the ice following a knee on knee hit with Maple Leafs player Cedric Paré. The hit did not look good and neither does the injury. Sadly, Laine has not yet played a regular season game with the Montreal Canadiens, and it looks like he could be out for a while. We're hoping for the best, but it did not look good. To make matters worse, former 5th overall pick David Reinbacher also went down with an apparent knee injury. Let's just say that we and our fellow Habs fans are very discouraged right now. We're hoping for the best but it does not look good. Both players were seen leaving the Bell Centre with a knee brace and on crutches. The question everyone is asking is whether the hit was dirty or not.
Should the NHL re-visit the pre-season format/rules? Are there too many pre-season games being played?
Xhekaj took matters into his own hands and decided to stick up for his teammate by going after Paré. Many agree and believe that Paré had to expect someone (Xhekaj) to force him to defend himself after injuring a key player on the Montreal Canadiens roster. However, some do not agree with how Xhekaj went about it and are comparing it to the Moore/Bertuzzi situation. Which was one of the worst gestures and injuries to have ever happened in the NHL. Do we think that Xhekaj did the right thing? Was what he did as bad as some (very few) people say it was?

  • Episode 95: Habs Bottom 6 Among the Best in the NHL?
    2024/09/24

    In this episode, we discuss...

The Habs bottom 6, where does it rank in the NHL? Assuming everyone is healthy, and that everyone plays their role and to their strengths, do the Habs have one of the best bottom 6 lines in the entire NHL?

Lane Hutson is making it easier and easier for Habs management to keep him up at the NHL level and insert him into the main defensive lineup. With his style of play, potential and offensive skills, could he finish the season as a contender for the Calder? What is the criteria a defenseman must hit to be a nominee or even win the Calder? Could Lane Hutson be the first Montreal Canadien to win the Calder since Ken Dryden (1971)?

Of all of the Habs storylines leading into the new season, which one are we most excited about and going to follow closely?

  • Episode 94: Lane Hutson Ready for the NHL?
    2024/09/17

    In this episode, we discuss...

So far, Lane Hutson has been a standout in every game that he has played for the Montreal Canadiens. Whether it was the 2 games VS Detroit or the prospects games, everyone notices when he is on the ice. His edge work and IQ are off the charts good. His skating and mobility is very Quinn Hughes like. Will he make mistakes in his very young career, absolutely, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons with him. The question is, is he ready for a full 82 games at the NHL level?

At the annual Montreal Canadiens golf tournament, Martin St. Louis confirmed that the Habs will not bring in a replacement for Alex Burrows and that MSL will run the powerplay. Will it be more of the same or something completely different?

Vegas odd have been released and have the Montreal Canadiens finishing the season with 76 pts. The exact number they finished with last season. They're wrong! Right? Well, we give our thoughts on it and provide the over and under. As a sub question, we give the over or under whether Dach will post over or under 70 pts (if healthy)

Pacioretty to the Leafs. At this stage of his career, do we care? Should we care?

  • Episode 93: Laine Traded to the Habs - Good or Bad?
    2024/08/21

    In this episode, we discuss...

On August 19, 2024, the Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Patrik Laine and 2026 2nd round pick for defenseman Jordan Harris.

Patrik Laine is a 26-year-old big sized winger (6'5") and was drafted 2nd overall in the 2016 NHL draft. He has scored 30+ goals twice and 40+ goals once. He has the ability to be a top line impact forward. When he is focused and engaged, he can change the course of game. He has one of the heaviest shots in the entire NHL and his release is up there with some of the best. He has posted 117 pts in his last 129 games and has a career goal per game average of ~35 goals. From a health perspective, his last few seasons have been a little rough. However, his points production has been very solid on a very bad team, while going through some personal issues.

Jordan Harris was a true professional and by all accounts, a very good person. However, there wasn't any place for him on the Montreal Canadiens roster. We wish him the best of luck.

We have spoken about Laine to the Habs for quite some time now. Admittedly, when the rumors first surfaced up, we did not hate the idea of Laine with the Habs, but we had our reservations and concerns. As time went on, and as we got into the dead part of the offseason, we started to really see the benefits of taking a chance on a player like Laine. You can refer to Episodes 87 and 92 to hear our thoughts on the Laine to the Habs Rumors.

Fast forward to today, the trade happened. Laine is a Hab. Is it a good thing? tune in to find out what we think.

Question(s) of the week: Are you happy the Habs acquired Laine?

For those of you who hated the idea (and even gave us a lot of heat on our previous episode) of seeing the Habs acquire Laine, seeing what they gave up for him, are you ok with the trade?

  • Episode 92: Canadiens Signings & Patrik Laine Rumors
    2024/08/04

Please note that this is one of our longer episodes and we got caught up with the topics - We apologize for that, but we hope you enjoy

    In this episode, we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens signed 3 of their RFAs to new contracts. Arber Xhekaj signed for 2 years at a $1.3 million AAV, Justin Barron 2 years at a $1.15 million AAV, and Kaiden Guhle 6 years at a $5.55 million AAV. We give our thoughts on the contracts and what this could mean for the Canadiens going forward. Matt thinks that Guhle getting a 6-year contract instead of 8 is interesting. Tune in to find out why.

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around social media about Patrick Laine and the Montreal Canadiens. We have spoken about Laine and the Montreal Canadiens in the past (episode 87). Has our opinion on Laine changed since then, do we think that Laine for the next 2 years would be a good fit for the Montreal Canadiens. Knowing that he doesn't have to be "The Guy" in Montreal, would that help him to take his game to the next level? We discuss all of that and more.
