Tim Graveney - Ethics and Compliance Officer
Tim is the Ethics and Compliance Officer and Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for HCA UK, which is an independent sector healthcare provider and hospital operator based in Nashville, but with several well-known hospitals in London and Manchester, including The Portland, The Princess Grace Hospital and Joint Ventures with the NHS at University College Hospital in London, and The Christie in Manchester. He is a compliance professional with over 25 years’ experience in the financial services and healthcare sectors, and voluntary experience in education and sport.
Prior to joining HCA, Tim worked for nearly 20 years at Deloitte, where he was the UK member firm’s Director of Ethics with responsibility for maintaining the Ethics programme designed by other fabulous friends of Steps such as Anita Aul, now the Ethics Partner at Deloitte. At HCA, he has built the ethics and compliance program in London based on the values, mission, and policies of an outstanding Ethics and Compliance programme built by HCA in Nashville. In particular, Tim leads in the field of promoting Speaking Up (which is the name given to a suite of interventions – including a team of 50 Speak Up Champions across HCA UK hospitals – which are together designed to help staff talk about concerns before they become problems).
In his spare time (though he claims he is not aware of any) Tim coaches cricket and football, and also watches his sons play American football with a mixture of pride and trepidation. And no, he can’t line dance and hasn’t met Dolly Parton - but claims to know where she lives…
