  • 84. How Can I Maintain Healthy Boundaries While Being of Service in Recovery?
    2024/09/17

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we’re joined by Mariana, who brings us an impactful inquiry: How Can I Maintain Healthy Boundaries While Being of Service in Recovery?

We often read in spiritual scriptures that we are meant to give without expectation. Yet, as humans in relationships, we recognize that boundaries are essential, especially in recovery.

Spiritual and religious teachings often compare service to an express train for personal and spiritual growth. While giving and serving are fundamental aspects of recovery, it’s important to understand that setting healthy boundaries not only prevents burnout but also allows us to continue giving sustainably.

I often say that ‘service is where the action is’, but what does it truly mean to be of service? How can we differentiate between serving authentically and serving in a codependent way?

In this episode, we’ll dive deep into what it means to be of service and explore how to help others without giving too much of yourself away.

    Tommy Discusses:

    • Being of service in the present moment
    • Giving from a place of wholeness and authenticity without losing yourself
    • Creating healthy boundaries
    • What it truly means to be of service
    • Helping others while letting go of the outcome

    2024/09/10

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, I am honored to connect with Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder and CEO of Agape International Spiritual Center, a renowned trans-denominational community in Los Angeles.

With thousands of local members and global live streamers, Agape is celebrated for its cultural, racial, and spiritual inclusivity. The late Coretta Scott King once praised Dr. Beckwith, saying, "I greatly admire what you are doing to bring about the beloved community," echoing the legacy of her late husband, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Beckwith is widely known for his teachings on inner transformation and unity, offering a practical approach to spirituality through meditation, affirmative prayer, and his Life Visioning process. This spiritual technology empowers individuals to evolve, live authentically, and fulfill their purpose consciously.

  • 82. How Can I Regulate My Emotions Quickly When I’m Triggered By My Own Thinking?
    2024/09/03

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we are joined by Rosie, who brings a relevant and powerful inquiry for our consideration: How can I quickly regulate my emotions and ground myself, so I don't get lost in the story my mind creates?

This is a deeply relevant inquiry—who hasn’t found themselves trapped by the narratives they carry in their mind? It’s all too common to become our own biggest triggers, getting swept away by our thoughts and emotions.

Recovery, however, is more than abstinence. It’s about moving beyond the limiting stories that keep us stuck and discovering new ways of thinking that empower us. It’s the process of letting go of old, unhelpful stories and embracing ones that enhance our connection to truth, power, love, and life itself.

By rewriting our stories, we can open the door to deeper healing and a more authentic, fulfilling existence.

    Tommy Discusses:

    • How to disrupt negative emotions
    • How to reframe the narratives that keep you stuck
    • Your thoughts hold no power over you
    • How the mind and breath are connected
    • You are not your thoughts and emotions

  • 81. What Steps Can Parents Take to Support Their Grown Child in Addiction Recovery?
    2024/08/27

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we’re joined by Elaine, who draws our attention to one of the most challenging scenarios in all of addiction: What steps can parents take to support their grown child in addiction recovery?

How do I remain silent when my child continues to make bad choices? I don't want to enable them. I don't know how to support them. What can I do? This inquiry will bring up important questions about how to position oneself to be of maximum use to a person who is struggling with active addiction.

This is one of those inquiries that will resound across the recovery community globally. I don't know of a family that hasn't been touched by addiction. This is an extremely relevant and important inquiry as we seek to be better, more skillful, and loving when supporting other people who might be struggling with active addiction.

    Tommy Discusses:

    • It’s not your job to fix your child's addiction
    • How to support someone in recovery
    • Live your life without suffering
    • The complexity of addiction
    • The Limits of Parental Influence
    • Letting go with love

  • 80. What is the Difference Between Being Introverted and Isolating?
    2024/08/20

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we have Kathy bringing a very unique yet relevant inquiry that requires a bit of unpacking. Kathy inquires: what is the difference between being an introvert and isolating?

Kathy wrote to us and said, “I usually hear that human beings are hardwired for connection and that we are social creatures. I do not believe it to be true for every human being - it isn’t true for me.”

As we go down the path of this inquiry, we'll learn that Kathy has been introverted most of her life and that her family was not necessarily comfortable with that.

We explore what it means to find solitude, the importance of cultivating a relationship with oneself, and how that relationship compares in importance and in necessity with the relationships with those around us.

This inquiry brings up a lot of questions about the difference between being an introvert and self-isolation.

    Tommy Discusses:

    • Is aloneness a bad thing?
    • The disease of the lost self
    • Consciousness is contagious
    • Are our cell phones keeping us from healing?
    • The antidote to loneliness

    2024/08/13

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, I’m incredibly excited to share my interview with Bruce Lipton, Ph.D.

Bruce is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. He was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin's School of Medicine, and later performed groundbreaking stem cell research at Stanford University. You may have read about that in his best-selling book, The Biology of Belief.

In 2009, Bruce received the prestigious Goy East Award in Japan in honor of his scientific contribution to world harmony.

This is a life-changing interview on how we can let go of addiction and upgrade our subconscious programming.

    Tommy and Bruce Discuss

    • Living in a constant state of threat
    • Conscious vs subconscious
    • How to upgrade your programming
    • The root cause of addiction
    • Why creating new habits will change your life

  • 78. Is It Possible To Fully Heal From Sexual Trauma?
    2024/08/06

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we are joined by Donna, who asks such a brave, honest, and raw question: Is It Possible To Fully Heal From Sexual Trauma?

Can the trauma of childhood sexual abuse be overcome? The unfortunate reality is that sexual and physical abuse are very present in our world. Donna’s inquiry gives us an opportunity to explore healing from these deep, formative wounds.

I believe that healing is always possible. It requires a combination of ingredients, a certain alchemy, and a willingness to sow the seeds of forgiveness and compassion for oneself and others. Frankly, it is incredibly difficult, but absolutely attainable, especially for someone who asks a question such as this.

    Tommy discusses

    • Letting go of trauma and abuse
    • Are unconscious beliefs holding you back from healing?
    • Does time heal all wounds?
    • Can we change for the better?
    • Embracing and accepting your wounds

  • 77. How Can I Remain Spiritual During Times Of War And Conflict?
    2024/07/30

On this week’s episode of In The Circle, we are joined by Elizabeth, who brings an incredibly powerful inquiry: How Can I Remain Spiritual During Troubling Times?

So many people I speak with are feeling lost, sad, depressed, or despairing in the face of the world's difficulties. Of course, it doesn’t help that we are attached to devices that inform us endlessly of other people's challenges.

This inquiry gives us a moment to explore the Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Through this, we can develop a strategy for managing the myriad of challenges that the people of the world are facing.

    Tommy discusses

    • The danger of the news
    • Accept the things you cannot change
    • We are all spiritual beings
    • There is more light than darkness in the world
