Is It A Fat Thing?

著者: Fat Liberation London
  • サマリー

  • Join Fat Liberation London co-founders - Nikita, Simran and Jade - as they explore the highs, lows and undeniable lols of the shared fat experience. Prepare for oversharing, swearing and unfiltered honesty – and maybe some new ideas about fatness too.

Fat Lib London began with the hope of providing an inclusive space for fat people to exist freely and in all their intersectionalities. Since founding the community in 2023, they’ve connected with so many people who, despite individual differences, have had a LOT of shared experiences; and each time were left pondering the same question… Is This a Fat Thing?

Armed with fat lived experiences, the rich history of the Fat Liberation movement and a lot of laughter (sorry in advance to your eardrums), they set out to put a spotlight on the systemic issues impacting fat people; from medical anti-fat biases and accessibility limitations, to diet culture and the difficulties of dating. As the podcast grows, they also aim to include voices across the spectrum of the fat community.

If you’re a fat person looking to connect with others living through the Ozempedempic and death of body positivity, a thin ally hoping to understand and help your fat friends through it, or someone interested in learning about the discrimination fat folx face and how you can do your part to change it, then this is the pod for you.

  • Is it a Fat Thing... to be subjected to diet talk?
    2025/02/19

In episode four of Is It a Fat Thing? we get into the tough stuff: diet talk. We do a light dip into the power of Fat bodies to skew a loo seat, surviving University as the 'fun' fat friend and even why Elphaba is Fat (!) and we will die on that hill, before getting into the tough stuff; connecting fatness to intersectional struggles, eating disorders and the damage of diet talk and why the diet industry is one big distraction tactic and it's connection to the rise of fascism.

Sadly, our mic wasn’t as on board with the conversation as we were, and there are quite a few sound issues in this episode! But we didn’t want to stop us from sharing such an important conversation with you, and we’re working on improving our sound quality in future episodes!

This episode was recorded in January 2025.
