    A big football weekend is on tap in Texas. On Saturday, Arch Manning will make his first start for No. 1 Texas as the Longhorns host Louisiana-Monroe. And on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys look to rebound from last week's blowout loss to New Orleans. Bonnie-Jill Laflin of 98.7 The Spot joined Mike Rogers and Austin York to preview all of it.

  • Arch Manning to make first start for #1 Texas on Saturday

    Make way for another superstar with the last name Manning. Arch Manning will make his first start for the #1 Texas Longhorns on Saturday. The quarterback is taking over for Quinn Ewers, who suffered an oblique injury in last week's game. In that 56-to-7 win against U-T-S-A, Arch came in during the second quarter and led the team to five touchdowns. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian tells us that the young Manning is ready to start this week for the team.

  • Garcia is one of the best chiefs Dallas PD 'has ever had,' DPA president says

    Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia will retire from law enforcement and take a civilian role in Austin. The news comes just months after the city of Dallas agreed to ensure that Garcia stayed among the state's highest-paid police chiefs and to give him a $10,000 retention bonus every six months. Jaime Castro, president of the Dallas Police Association, which represents the city's officers, joined KRLD Friday morning with his reaction.

  • Doctors are warning about a winter surge of COVID

    Before we travel and gather for the holidays, public health leaders want everybody to get a new vaccine that is now available. Dr Jason Bowling with the University of Texas Health System says this is not a booster shot.

    He says COVID keeps evolving. And research is keeping up. These shots get the same testing as any other vaccine, meaning they're safe. This one is still free and widely available.

  • Teachers from across the country come to Dallas to talk about students' success
    2024/09/20

    The nonprofit, Communities in Schools, has brought 400 teachers and education leaders to Dallas this week for a conference on students' success. Communities in Schools works directly with districts to identify kids who may need help with academics, attendance or behavior.

    "We give them trained individuals who operate on their campuses every day," says Dallas Region Chief Executive Adam Powell. "Our full-time staff is there every day working with students really putting together individualized plans to help them overcome whatever barrier they might be facing."

  • Why are there so many threats against schools this year?
    2024/09/20

    This school year has begun with arrests and threats against schools all over Texas.
    On Wednesday, the Houston area had four threats and arrests for everything from bomb threats to finding a gun and a knife on campus to a stabbing. Across Texas, police have arrested at least 10 people over school threats, including a student in Wylie who threatened to shoot up the school, and another at a middle school in Arlington. Dr. Alex del Carmen, a criminology professor at Tarleton State Univesity, joined Ask the Expert on Thursday.
