If you don't create the sustainable habits and lifestyle changes that are required to maintain a lean muscular body - you'll always regain the weight back again as soon as you stop that nose to the grindstone approach. The good news is if you do the right things - the process of building a lean muscular body doesn't have to be stressful, or painful, and it can actually be more enjoyable than the way you're living right now.
