  • Let's Talk with Helene and Dom | Founders of The Spoonie Society

    Happy Wednesday lovelies and get ready for another ep of Let's Talk, Period! Today's episode is with the incredible founders of The Spoonie Society, Helene and Dom!
    Dominique and Helene are very familiar with the suffering and stigma that is associated with having a chronic illness as they both suffer from Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. ⁠Dominique was diagnosed with Endometriosis in July of 2019 via laparoscopy & endometrial excision. She has since undergone multiple procedures in order to obtain the best quality of life. Helene was also diagnosed with Endometriosis in August of 2018 and has since been diagnosed with PCOS and Adenomyosis. Helene has also undergone multiple surgeries & procedures including a ketamine infusion and nerve blockers.
    Dominique and Helene met through social media only just last year, after sharing their experiences with Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It was then that The Spoonie Society was born! With Dom’s entrepreneurial spirit and marketing insight, and Helene’s knowledge around fashion design The Spoonie Society has just gone from strength to strength in the mere months that they’ve been running. Together Dominique and Helene hope that through The Spoonie Society, chronic illness sufferers will find their voice and help gain awareness on chronic illnesses.

    Happy Wednesday! We're back for Episode 3 of Season 2, and it's with none other than Founder and Managing Director of Share the Dignity, Rochelle Courtenay! Nicknamed ‘The Pad Lady’, Rochelle is a woman on a mission to end period poverty, and break the silence and stigma that surrounds women and periods in Australia and globally. She’s the Founder and Managing Director of Share the Dignity, a charity she started single-handedly in 2015 when she discovered that women in need in Australia had no access to period products during their menstrual cycle. Share the Dignity started from a simple, grassroots idea of wanting to improve the lives of disadvantaged women, and Rochelle forged ahead on the belief that one person could indeed make a difference. Along the way, her dedication inspired others to join in. Today, she leads a team of over 5500 volunteers determined to bring a ray of hope and light into the lives of homeless women and those fleeing from abuse and domestic violence. Share the Dignity has donated over 2.8 million period products (over 37 million dollars’ worth) through multiple initiatives across Australia. Rochelle has also won recognition and accolades for her work including Finalist Australian of the Year, Cosmopolitan Humanitarian of the Year and Pride of Australia.
