  • Sydney Stories: Secret stories
    2022/08/08

Are you ready to hear a secret?

Three of Sydney's best storytellers — journalists Chris Masters and Ella-Archibald-Binge, and writer and TV presenter Zoe Norton Lodge — tell us secret stories from the harbour city's history.

From a wharf in Woolloomooloo where the first Anzacs departed in 1914 to a woman's reconnection with the family and culture stolen from her, to the 2000 Sydney Olympics where marching band members dropped like flies.

This Sydney Stories event was hosted by comedian Rebecca De Unamuno at the Judith Neilson Institute, as part of a collaboration between JNI, Phoenix Central Park and Vivid Sydney.

  • Sydney Stories: True crime stories
    2022/07/19

Three of Sydney's best storytellers — investigative journalists Kate McClymont and Amber Shultz, and Jack the Insider columnist Peter Hoysted — take us on a trip through the harbour city's seedy underbelly.

Hear the hilarious story of a botched arson job in the city's eastern suburbs by two incredibly stupid criminals. Relive the murder of boxer Bobby Lee by Australia's first gangster Chow Hayes. Look back on a conversation with a young priest in a Sydney seminary about addressing the crimes of the Catholic Church.

This first Sydney Stories event was hosted by comedian Rebecca De Unamuno at the Judith Neilson Institute, as part of a collaboration between JNI, Phoenix Central Park and Vivid Sydney.

  • The Guardian's Pacific Editor Kate Lyons
    2022/07/07

The Guardian's Pacific Project launched in 2019 to provide more quality journalism on the region and to give talented Pacific journalists new opportunities to tell stories in their own voices.

Overseeing the project is Pacific Editor Kate Lyons, who has built a network of talented journalists, photographers and filmmakers throughout the region.

Their reporting covers critical strategic, social, environmental, political and criminal issues in the Pacific.

But getting the news out of the region is not easy. Natural disasters, political pressures and technological challenges are common.

JNI's Andrew Griffits sat down with Kate Lyons to discuss the challenges and delights of working on the Pacific Project.

The Guardian's Pacific Project is supported by the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas.
