Julie D’Aubigny, better known as La Maupin, was an Opera singing, sword fighting openly bisexual woman in Paris in the late 1600’s. This was at a time of casual gender bending and more open outlook on sex. La Maupin made a name for herself through her adventures as well as her natural singing abilities that showcased a new vocal range in the growing musical art form.
